Thank you. The receivers of Zakah money are clearly mentioned in the Qur’an. Among them, the poor and needy people. Looking at the situation of those people who are afflicted, one can conclude that the Muslims among them fall under the category of needy people.
In this regard, those Muslims deserve to receive a portion of Zakah. As for non-Muslims, they might deserve donation or any other form of assistance but not Zakah.
Thus, Zakah should be given to poor and needy Muslims. Some non-Muslims may receive a portion of Zakah if there is hope that by giving them Zakah that might lead to their conversion into Islam. They would be then considered under the category of mu’allafati qulubuhun or those whose hearts are inclined to accept Islam.

In this, the PA is simply reflecting traditional Islamic piety. The Hadith quoted by Dr. Hassan Khater is repeated several times in Sahih Muslim, indicating its attestation by multiple sources. Today, PA TV chose to rebroadcast this same call to genocide as a historical necessity -- this time from a senior PA academic rather than from a religious leader. Dr. Hassan Khater, founder of the Al Quds Encyclopedia and a TV lecturer, cited the identical Hadith - Islamic tradition attributed to Mohammed - that the religious leaders have used to demand this genocide. This was part of a lecture focusing on what he described as the war of the Jews against Palestinian trees.

The continued teaching that this Hadith applies today could well be a dominant factor driving terror against Israeli civilians. By depicting redemption as dependent on Muslims' killing of Jews, the PA world view presents this genocide as a religious obligation and historical necessity -- not related to the conflict over borders, but as something inherent to Allah's world.

WASHINGTON - A California woman says she was married to Al Qaeda.
In a new television interview shedding light on how Osama Bin Laden's terror network operates in the U.S., Saraah Olson, 35, says one of Osama's men duped her into marriage - giving himself cover for terrorist plots and turning her dream life into a living hell she could not escape.
She finally figured it out after her husband, Hisham Diab, had the infamous blind Sheik Omar Abdel-Rahman - now imprisoned for plots against New York - over for dinner.
After cooking for the evil cleric, she tried to get out by calling the FBI, Olson says in an interview on ABC's "PrimeTime Live" tonight. But she says the FBI wasn't interested and she gave up.
"I'm in hell," she recalled thinking. "I have entered the bowels of hell and I'm going to be here forever."
Abdel-Rahman visited her home in October 1992, just three months before the first World Trade Center attack.
After that - and suffering beatings from Diab - she was too afraid to come forward and went along with his schemes. "I'm not proud of it," she said. "I just knew that I lived in hell and I wanted out. If helping him ... meant that I wouldn't get hit, I was willing to do it.
"I was the wife. So it looked like a typical guy married to an American girl with the little blond-haired, blue-eyed boy in tow," said Olson, referring to her son from a previous marriage.
Under the cover of his American marriage, Diab ran a bogus charity that allegedly funneled cash to Al Qaeda, according to U.S. officials and terror researchers Steven Emerson and Rita Katz.
One of Diab's partners was his neighbor Khalil Deek, who was arrested by Jordan for plotting to blow up the U.S. Embassy at the turn of the millennium.
And Olson witnessed the recruiting of Adam Gadahn, who is now believed to be "Azzam the American," a fellow Californian who recently released a terrorist tape promising attacks that would make America's streets "run red with blood." The FBI now considers him one of the top threats to the country.
But when he first showed up at Olson's home in Garden Grove, Calif., he was a teenager she described as "fresh meat" for Diab and Deek.
"They totally take this really nice guy ... and they start teaching him their belief of Islam, their warped thought process," Olson recalled.
Her nightmare finally ended when Diab fled around the time of the failed millennium plot.

Sharia has no place here

OUTRAGEOUS AS it is, former NDP attorney-general Marion Boyd wants sharia law introduced into Ontario to resolve Muslim domestic disputes. It's hard to think of anything with a greater potential for misery and heartache to women than sharia law. Yet it is a step closer to becoming reality in Ontario.
Ms Boyd was appointed by the McGuinty government to relate sharia law to the 1991 arbitration act that Ms Boyd was involved in legislating as a member of the NDP government. Talk of conflict of interest!
Catholics and Jews can arbitrate domestic disputes within their faiths, and Ms Boyd apparently sees no fundamental difference between them and sharia law for Muslims.
In fact, there is a hell of a lot of difference.
Catholics and Jews don't discriminate against women the way sharia law does by violating fundamental rights enshrined in our Constitution for equal treatment.
Under some interpretations of sharia, a woman who is raped is guilty of tempting the man. Showing an ankle is tantamount to enticement. A Muslim husband has the right -- duty even -- to beat his wife if she's disobedient. A Muslim who converts to Christianity technically could face a death sentence.
Apologists insist this is mostly symbolic, but who's to say?
In its extreme form, as with the Taliban of Afghanistan, on select Fridays in Kabul women who were deemed guilty of violating sharia law -- like leaving their houses, or showing their faces -- were taken to the football stadium to be humiliated.
Some were beaten, some were shot. That won't happen here, but it's sharia law and the pressure on women will be acute.
Ms Boyd says Muslim women will have a choice -- be adjudicated by sharia law, or Ontario law, and have a choice of adjudicators .
In theory, maybe, but in practice -- look at how many abused women haven't the strength to defy their abusers.
Ms Boyd may be emotionally wedded to the arbitration act she helped devise, but why would she ignore those who actually know and have had experience with sharia law?
Like the Canadian Council of Muslim Women, which pleaded with her to reject sharia and stick with Canadian law?
FANATICS WOULD REJOICE
Why would she not listen to Tarak Fatah, a founder of the Muslim Canadian Congress, who passionately and convincingly argues that sharia should never be implanted in Canada.
Many have come here to escape the tyranny of sharia.
I've spoken to Fatah, and he's adamant that Ontario should not allow sharia to gain a foothold here.
He's not so concerned about abuses here (there will be, but that's human nature and inevitable) but is concerned that Ontario's decision would be trumpeted throughout the Islamic world as vindication and acceptance of sharia.
"It will be presented as Canada adopting sharia law -- not just a segment of it, but all of it. And it will be used by militants as propaganda to expand its extreme principles."
I hadn't thought of that --- and it's doubtful Marion Boyd has.
Attorney-General Michael Bryant and his boss, gaffe-prone Premier Dalton McGuinty, will make the final decision.
It will indeed be foolish if they don't reject the recommendation.
Sharia law has no place in civilized society, no matter how benignly it is depicted. It dates back to the 14th century and does not treat the sexes equally.
Period.
In Ontario it may not be used to order women stoned to death for behaviour it tolerates in men, but it is a matter of degree.
There is no need for it in Canada. It is not religious freedom, it is religious oppression.
Listen to the Council of Muslim Women and rational Muslims like Tarak Fatah, and not the Canadian Islamic Congress, which sees itself as the sole interpreter of sharia law.
Palestinians Don't Deserve Additional Aid

Yasser Arafat died last month. This month, his death is prompting plans for a foreign aid bounty of $500 million to $1 billion a year for the Palestinian Arabs.
That's the scoop Steven Weisman published in the New York Times on December 17. He revealed that Western, Arab, and other governments plan to add a 50% to 100% bonus to the $1 billion a year they already direct to 3.5 million Palestinian Arabs in the territories, contingent upon a crackdown on terrorist groups and the holding of credible elections in January 2005.
(Asked about Mr. Weisman's report, White House spokesman Scott McClellan neither confirmed nor denied it.
But President Bush did subsequently make some hugely ambitious statements about the Palestinian-Israeli conflict: "I am convinced that, during this term, I will manage to bring peace" and "Next year is very important, as it will bring peace."
Aid-wise, residents of the West Bank and Gaza have hardly been neglected until now. They receive about $300 per person, making them, per capita, the world's greatest beneficiaries of foreign aid. Strangely, their efforts to destroy Israel have not inspired efforts to crush this hideous ambition but rather to subsidize it. Money being fungible, foreign aid effectively funds the Palestinian Arabs, bellicose propaganda machine, their arsenal, their army, and their suicide bombers.
This, however, does not faze international-aid types. Nigel Roberts, the World Bank's director for the West Bank and Gaza, blows off past failures. Addressing himself to donors, he says, "Maybe your $1 billion a year hasn't produced much, but we think there's a case for doing even more in the next three or four years."
Mr. Roberts is saying, in effect: Yes, your money enabled Arafat's corruption, jihad ideology, and suicide factories, but those are yesterday's problems; now, let's hope the new leadership uses donations for better purposes. Please lavish more funds on it to enhance its prestige and power, then hope for the best.
This la-la-land thinking ignores two wee problems. One concerns the Palestinian Arabs' widespread intent to destroy Israel, as portrayed by the outpouring of grief for archterrorist Arafat at his funeral, the consistent results of opinion research, and the steady supply of would-be jihadists. The Palestinian Arabs' discovery of inner moderation has yet to commence, to put it mildly.
The other problem is blaming the past decade's violence and tyranny exclusively on Arafat, and erroneously assuming that, now freed of him, the Palestinian Arabs are eager to reform. Mahmoud Abbas, the new leader, has indeed called for ending terrorism against Israel, but he did so for transparently tactical reasons (it is the wrong thing to do now), not for strategic reasons (it is permanently to be given up), much less for moral ones (it is inherently evil).
Mr. Abbas is not a moderate but a pragmatist. Unlike Arafat, consumed by his biography and his demons, Mr. Abbas offers a more reasonable figure, one who can more rationally pursue Arafat's goal of destroying Israel.
In this spirit, he has quickly apologized to the Kuwaitis and made up with the Syrians; compared to this, reaching out to the Americans is easy.
But, no less than his mentor Arafat, Mr. Abbas remains intent on eliminating Israel. This is evident, for example, from his recent comments insisting that millions of Palestinian Arab "refugees" be permitted to enter Israel so as to overwhelm it demographically; or from his keeping the virulent content of the Palestinian Authority's press in place.
To give additional money to the Palestinian Arabs now, ahead of their undergoing a change of heart and accepting the permanent existence of the Jewish state of Israel, is a terrible mistake, one that numbingly replicates the errors of the 1990's, Oslo diplomacy. Prematurely rewarding the Palestinian Arabs will again delay the timetable of conciliation.
As I have argued for years, money, arms, diplomacy, and recognition for the Palestinian Arabs should follow on their having accepted Israel. One sign that this will have happened: When Jews living in Hebron (on the West Bank) need no more security than Arabs living in Nazareth (within Israel).
Until that day of harmony - which I predict is about thirty years off - the outside world should focus not on showering money or other benefits on the Palestinian Arabs, but on pushing them relentlessly to accept Israel's existence.
Charles fights death penalty for folks who want to leave izlam

The Prince of Wales is brokering efforts to end the Muslim death penalty on converts to other faiths, The Telegraph has learned.
He held a private summit of Christian and Muslim leaders at Clarence House this month to explore the centuries-old Islamic law under which apostates face persecution and even death.
His intervention follows mounting anger at the treatment of Muslims who haveconverted to Christianity in a number of Islamic states.
As an advocate of inter-faith dialogue, Prince Charles has come underpressure to criticise the religious law that, campaigners say, has resultedin hundreds of executions in countries from Iran to Sudan.
Among the Christians at the confidential meeting was an Anglican archbishopfrom a part of Nigeria where Islamic Sharia law is enforced.
Others included the Bishop of London, the Rt Rev Richard Chartres, and thePakistani-born Bishop of Rochester, the Rt Rev Michael Nazir-Ali.
It is understood that the Muslim group, which included the Islamic scholarZaki Badawi, cautioned the prince and other non-Muslims against speakingpublicly on the issue.
It argued that Islamic moderates could have more influence on thetraditional position if the debate remained largely internal. (yeah...right...)
A member of the Christian group said yesterday that he was "very, very unhappy" about the outcome.
Patrick Sookhdeo, the international director of the Barnabas Fund whichcampaigns on behalf of persecuted Christians abroad, stressed that he wasspeaking on the record only because details of the meeting had alreadyleaked.
He urged the prince and Muslim leaders in Britain to criticise openly the traditional Islamic law on apostasy, calling for it to be abolishedthroughout the world. "My view, and I think the other Christians shared it, is that when something is wrong it must be stated as a wrong."
Of course it's wrong, evil and horrific - but doesn't that define islam in a nutshell?

Was the prophet Mohammed a paedophile? (yes, ed.) The question is sometimes asked because one of his wives, Aisha, was a child when he married her. As Barnaby Rogerson gingerly puts it in his highly sympathetic recent biography (The Prophet Muhammad, Little, Brown): "…the age disparity was considerable: she was only nine while Muhammad was 53". Aisha was taken from her seesaw on the morning of her marriage to be dressed in her wedding garment. After sharing a bowl of milk with the prophet, she went to bed with him.
To me, it seems anachronistic to describe Mohammed as a child-molester. The marriage rules of his age and society were much more tribal and dynastic than our own, and women were treated more as property and less as autonomous beings. Aisha was the daughter of Mohammed's right-hand man, and eventual successor (caliph), Abu Bakr. No doubt he and his family were very proud of the match. I raise the question, though, because it seems to me that people are perfectly entitled - rude and mistaken though they may be - to say that Mohammed was a paedophile, but if David Blunkett gets his way, they may not be able to.
As I write, I am looking at a Christmas brochure for Channel 4. It contains an interview with Paul Abbott, author of the "current hit show, Shameless". Clever Paul swears a lot, and proudly tells a story about how, when his brothers held him upside down to help him steal a Christmas tree from his Yugoslav next door neighbour, he was so frightened that he started urinating. Ha ha.
There follows a two-page pictorial spread of Paul's characters, the Gallaghers, having their Christmas lunch. The tableau is presented (sub-Buñuel) as a parody of the Last Supper. (Do Paul Abbott and Channel 4 believe, perhaps, that this took place at Christmas?) The first page shows a line of yobs - mimicking the Apostles - beginning their meal in reasonably good order. The second depicts them towards its end, violent and drunk. The "Jesus" figure is lurching forward, halo awry, beer can in one hand and cigarette in the other.
The natural inclination of Christians in the face of such affronts is anger. But would it really be a better society in which silly, urinating Mr Abbott could go to prison for such a thing, and perhaps the bosses of Channel 4 with him? Before lots of respectable readers shriek "Yes!", think what it means.
Why is it that so many people resent religion and turn against it? Surely it is because of its coercive force, its tendency to mistake the worldly power of its priests and mullahs for justified zeal for the truth. It is not God who turns people away, but what people do in the name of God. If a law against religious hatred is passed, even when blessed by St David Blunkett, the natural consequence will be a rise in the hatred of religion.
Particularly hatred of Islam. The BNP website describes Islam in the hands of some of its adherents as "less a religion and more a magnet for psychopaths and a machine for conquest". If a law says they can't say that, the BNP will, in the minds of many, be proved right. On Tuesday, Mr Blunkett said that it would be illegal to claim that "Muslims are a threat to Britain". People already censor themselves through fear of Muslim reaction to mockery - I don't suppose even brave, incontinent, foul-mouthed Paul Abbott would write a comedy for the start of Ramadan showing Mohammed downloading dubious images from the internet. If the law criminalises such activity, the scope for resentment is huge.
Iqbal Sacranie, of the mainstream Muslim Council of Britain, wants the new law because any "defamation of the character of the prophet Mohammed (Peace Be Upon Him)" is a "direct insult and abuse of the Muslim community". In effect, he is asking for the law of libel to be extended beyond the grave, giving religious belief a protection extended to no other creed or version of history.
Where does all this come from? Not, I fear, from the right, if misapplied, desire for different faiths to live at peace. Incitement to violence, after all, is already an offence, and so it should be. No, the pressure is chiefly from Muslims. If we want to understand its context, we should look at what happens in Muslim societies.
According to Muslim law, believers who reject or insult Islam have no rights. Apostasy is punishable by death. In Iran, Saudi Arabia and Sudan, death is the penalty for those who convert from Islam to Christianity. In Pakistan, the blasphemy law prescribes death for anyone who, even accidentally, defiles the name of Mohammed. In a religion which, unlike Christianity, has no idea of a God who himself suffers humiliation, all insult must be avenged if the honour of God is to be upheld.
Under Islam, Christians and Jews, born into their religion, have slightly more rights than apostates. They are dhimmis, second-class citizens who must pay the jiyza, a sort of poll tax, because of their beliefs. Their life is hard.
In Saudi, they cannot worship in public at all, or be ministered to by clergy even in private. In Egypt, no Christian university is permitted. In Iran, Christians cannot say their liturgy in the national language. In almost all Muslim countries, they are there on sufferance and, increasingly, because of radical Islamism, not even on that.
The ancient plurality of the region is vanishing. Tens of thousands are fleeing the Muslim world, and in some countries - Sudan, Indonesia, Ivory Coast - large numbers die, on both sides. In Iraq, the intimidation of Christians is enormous. Five churches have suffered bomb attacks this year. Christians in Mosul have received letters saying that one member of each family will be killed to punish women who do not wear the headscarf. According to Dr Patrick Sookhdeo of the Barnabas Fund, a charity working for persecuted Christians, "Christians in Iraq are isolated and vulnerable this Christmas, and feel that they have been let down, even betrayed, by their fellow Christians in the West, especially the Church leadership".
The push for a religious hatred law here is an attempt to advance the legal privilege that Muslims claim for Islam. True, Muslim leaders are happy that the same protection should be extended to other religions in this country. But to a modern liberal society which claims the freedom to attack all beliefs, this should be no comfort. It says a good deal about the quality of churchmen and politicians in Britain that the most prominent opponent of the Bill is Mr Bean. The Archbishop of Canterbury is more or less invisible. The Government is on the side of repression.
Because it is usually called Boxing Day, people forget that December 26 is the feast of St Stephen, the first martyr. Somewhere in the Muslim world on that day, there will be more Christians martyred, as there are every day of the year. Muslims are not martyred in Britain. For once, the mote is in our own eye, and the beam in somebody else's - or will it soon be illegal to say that?
Chopping off heads in the name of God Muhammad Saad al-Beshi beheads up to seven people a day. "It doesn't matter to me: Two, four, 10 - as long as I'm doing God's will, it doesn't matter how many people I execute.

Ayaan Hirsi Ali - standing up to the crimes of islam
Dutch MP Ayaan Hirsi Ali is working on a follow-up project to "Submission", the controversial film made with murdered filmmaker Theo van Gogh.
Hirsi Ali said the theme for Submission - Part II will be how the Islamic faith oppresses individuals, with a focus on the position of women. She also said that she wants to abolish or phase out Islamic education, rather than "burn it down" immediately.
But Hirsi Ali said she is also writing a book called "Shortcut to Enlightenment", asserting that she hopes to point out a short cut for Muslims to gain enlightenment, evening newspaper NRC Handelsblad reported Monday.

A letter left with Van Gogh's body warned that Hirsi Ali was next, prompting her to go into hiding. She agreed to the interview with the paper only on condition the whereabouts and time of the interview would be kept secret.
The Somali-born MP has several times in the past gone into hiding due to death threats made against her.
An outspoken critic of Islam, she has previously described the prophet Mohammed as a "perverted tyrant" by modern standards for taking a 12-year-old girl as a wife. She is also strongly opposed to the status accorded to women in the Islamic faith.
A 26-year-old Dutch-Moroccan, Mohammed B., has been arrested for the murder of Van Gogh. He is allegedly linked to a group of Islamic militants accused of planning the murder of Hirsi Ali and conservative independent MP Geert Wilders.

TORONTO, Nov. 2 (UPI) -- Tuesday's slaying of Theo van Gogh, a Dutch filmmaker who criticized Islamic practices, reminds all of a nagging truth: More than 15 years after the government of Iran issued a death warrant against novelist Salman Rushdie, challenging Muslims remains a risky business.
As a Muslim dissident, I speak from experience. My book, "The Trouble with Islam," has put me on the receiving end of anger, hatred and vitriol. That's because I'm asking questions that we Muslims can no longer hide from. Why, for example, are we squandering the talents of half of God's creation, women? What's with the stubborn streak of anti-Semitism in Islam today? Above all, how can even moderate Muslims view the Koran literally when it, like every holy text, abounds in contradictions and ambiguity? The trouble with Islam today is that literalism is going mainstream.
Muslims who take offense at these points often wind up reinforcing them in their responses to me. I regularly get death threats through my Web site. Some of my would-be assassins emphasize the virtues of martyrdom, wanting to hurl me into the "flames of hell" in exchange for 72 virgins. Others simply want to know what plane I'm next boarding, so they can hijack it. Somehow, I don't feel the urge to share my schedule.
A few threats have been up-close and personal. At an airport in North America, a Muslim man approached my traveling companion to say, "You're luckier than your friend." When she asked him to explain, he turned his hand into the shape of a gun and pulled the trigger. "She will find out later what that means," he intoned.
But, for all of the threats, there's good news: I'm hearing more support, affection and even love from fellow Muslims than I thought possible. Two groups in particular -- young Muslims and Muslim women -- have flooded my Web site with letters of relief and thanks. They are relieved that somebody is saying out loud words they have only whispered, and grateful that they're being given the permission to think for themselves.
That's why I don't take my bodyguard everywhere I go. It may be necessary to have one when I visit France next week. But in my day-to-day life, I refuse to be closely protected. If I'm going to have credibility conveying to Muslims that we can, indeed, live while dissenting with the establishment, I can't have a big, burly fellow looking over my shoulder. I must lead by example. So far, so good.
To be sure, I haven't tried visiting Egypt, Syria, Saudi Arabia or Pakistan since the release of my book. (One challenge at time, please!) Still, the relative safety with which I've debated Islam in the West -- from Britain to Belgium, from Australia to Canada, from the Netherlands to the United States -- convinces me that Muslims in the West have a sterling opportunity. They are best poised to revive Islam's tradition of independent reasoning. Why in the West? Because it's here that we already enjoy the precious freedoms to think, express, challenge and be challenged -- all without fear of state reprisal.
I'm not denying that some Muslims have been targeted for harassment, profiling and discrimination by Western governments. I faced the same during the 1991 Gulf War when I was marched out of a federal building in Ottawa, Canada for no apparent reason. However, none of this negates a basic fact: If Muslims in the West dare to ask questions about our holy book, and if we care to denounce human rights violations being committed under the banner of that book, we need not worry about being raped, flogged, stoned or executed by the state for doing so. What in God's name are Muslims in the West doing with our freedoms?
I know what many young Muslim would like us to be doing -- thinking critically about ourselves and not solely about Washington. Indeed, a huge motivation for having written my book came from young Muslims on American and Canadian campuses. Even before 9/11, I spoke at universities about the virtues of diversity, including diversity of opinion. After many of these speeches, young Muslims emerged from the audiences, gathered at the side of stage, chatted excitedly among themselves, and then walked over to me.
"Irshad," I would hear, "we need voices such as yours to help us open up this religion of our because if it doesn't open up, we're leaving it."
They're on the front lines in the battle for the soul of Islam. Whatever the risks to my own safety, I won't turn my back on them -- or on the gift of freedom bestowed by my society.

Muslim world: 74% want Hamas to replace Arafat
The goal of Hamas is to kill every Jew in Israel and most muslims support this goal. Moderate muslims - where are you?
A survey of the Arab world organized by the Al-Arabia network website after the death of Yasser Arafat, showed 73.72% want a Hamas representative to replace Arafat, ITIM reported.
In contrast only 0.7% expect that one of the PLO leaders will take over.
25.58% were in favor of an independent candidate.
113,107 participants from across the Arab world took part in the survey.
The organizers of the survey explained that the Hamas movement and the Islamic Jihad organization stand for the establishment of a Palestinian state on the land of historic Palestine, a concept that the PLO gave up on when the Oslo discussions began.

New world record!
WEST BANK, Palestine A 19-year-old Palestinian college student beat the
current world record for most consecutive demands for Jihad, or holy war,
according to Guinness Book spokesman, Jerry Cox.
"It was an amazing sight to see. I didn't think anyone was going to beat the
old record."
The former record of 12,175 angry calls for Jihad was set in 1994 by Hamat
Azahlas, a 35-year-old refugee living in Lebanon.
According to the new record holder, Wallid El Sahami, it was no great feat.
"I was just hanging around with my friends urinating on the American flag
and doing what I normally do when I cut classes," El Sahami said. "I had no
idea I had beaten any kind of record."
When 12 hours had passed and El Sahami had uttered the inflammatory call for
Jihad 12,233 times, his friends called the Guinness Book Publishing office
and asked them to send a staffer over.
Skeptical at first, Cox, who happened to be vacationing in Islamabad, put
down his tennis racquet and came over to witness the feat in person. "He
just kept saying it over and over again. It was almost as if he only had
that one word in his vocabulary."
Modest as always, the newly crowned "King of Jihad," shrugged off his
newfound celebrity and explained it wasn't that hard to do. "I just
concentrated real hard on killing each and every one of the infidels and
then beating their children with a large claw hook hammer," El Sahami said.
"It was actually a lot of fun-especially when I began singing it to the tune
of old Woody Guthrie songs."
According to Cox, the prize will include a leatherbound Encyclopedia
Britannica, $500 in cash and a guest appearance on the special Terrorist
Edition of "The Weakest Link."

Last Friday, Muslims in Dearborn, Michigan, held an anti-American, anti-Israel demonstration. Protestors carried a large model of Jerusalem’s Al-Aqsa Mosque and waved signs bearing slogans such as “US Hands Off Muslim Land.” But the most arresting image was of a Muslim woman carrying a large sign featuring the face of the Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini.
Time dims memories. I wonder if any onlooker at the demonstration saw the Khomeini sign and remembered those tense days of the Iranian hostage crisis, when Khomeini’s regime violated the traditional sanctity of the embassy and held 50 Americans for month after month while Jimmy Carter dithered. I wonder if any of the onlookers knew that Khomeini’s triumph in Iran in 1979 embodied the idea that Islamic law was superior to all other ways to order societies, and must be pressed forward by force. As Khomeini himself put it: “Islam makes it incumbent on all adult males, provided they are not disabled or incapacitated, to prepare themselves for the conquest of countries so that the writ of Islam is obeyed in every country in the world....But those who study Islamic Holy War will understand why Islam wants to conquer the whole world.”
The goal of this conquest would be to establish the hegemony of Islamic law. As Khomeini put it: “What is the good of us [i.e., the mullahs] asking for the hand of a thief to be severed or an adulteress to be stoned to death when all we can do is recommend such punishments, having no power to implement them?”
Khomeini accordingly delivered notorious rebuke to the Islam-is-a-religion-of-peace crowd: “Those who know nothing of Islam pretend that Islam counsels against war. Those [who say this] are witless. Islam says: Kill all the unbelievers just as they would kill you all! Does this mean that Muslims should sit back until they are devoured by [the unbelievers]? Islam says: Kill them, put them to the sword and scatter [their armies]…. Islam says: Whatever good there is exists thanks to the sword and in the shadow of the sword! People cannot be made obedient except with the sword! The sword is the key to Paradise, which can be opened only for the Holy Warriors! There are hundreds of other [Qur’anic] psalms and Hadiths [sayings of the Prophet] urging Muslims to value war and to fight. Does all this mean that Islam is a religion that prevents men from waging war? I spit upon those foolish souls who make such a claim.”
Was the woman who carried Khomeini’s image in the Dearborn demonstration concerned about the human rights of women? Did she know that the Ayatollah himself married a ten-year-old girl when he was twenty-eight? Did she know that Khomeini called marriage to a girl before her first menstrual period “a divine blessing,” and advised the faithful: “Do your best to ensure that your daughters do not see their first blood in your house”?
It is unlikely that the protestor knew that in 1985, Sa’id Raja’i-Khorassani, the Permanent Delegate to the United Nations from the Islamic Republic of Iran, declared, according to Amir Taheri, that “the very concept of human rights was ‘a Judeo-Christian invention’ and inadmissible in Islam. . . . According to Ayatollah Khomeini, one of the Shah’s ‘most despicable sins’ was the fact that Iran was one of the original group of nations that drafted and approved the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.”
I wonder if anyone at the Dearborn protest realized that the appearance of these signs in Dearborn, Michigan, exalting this man as a hero, indicated that Khomeini’s vision for society is alive in America today — and that it is dangerously naive to assume that all Muslims immediately and unquestioningly accept American pluralism and the idea of a state not governed by religious law. The Netherlands is just finding out, thanks to the cold-blooded murder and attempted decapitation of the “blasphemer” Theo van Gogh by a Muslim who appears to have been part of a larger jihadist cell, that not all the Muslims in Holland are the committed pluralists and secularists that they have been assumed to be by credulous European authorities.
With Khomeini a hero in Dearborn, Americans may be finding that out for themselves before long. Just where American Muslims stand on Khomeini’s doctrines — and how many stand with Khomeini — are still forbidden questions for the major media. But if the old man could have spoken from his sign in Dearborn, he might have said, “Ignore me at your own risk.”

Kidnapped CARE director believed dead
LONDON - The family of British hostage Margaret Hassan says they believe she is dead, after a videotape surfaced that apparently shows a militant firing a pistol into the head of a blindfolded woman.
"Our hearts are broken," said a statement released Tuesday by Michael, Deirdre, Geraldine and Kathryn Fitzsimons, who are the Irish-born Hassan's brother and sisters. "We have kept hoping for as long as we could, but we now have to accept that Margaret has probably gone and at last her suffering has ended."
Tahsin Hassan, her husband, said a tape has been discovered appearing to show his wife being killed. Jihad Ballout, a spokesperson for the Arab satellite TV channel Al-Jazeera, said the station received a copy of the video a few days ago.
The Fitzsimons family released its statement through Britain's Foreign Office.
"Nobody can justify this," the statement said. "Margaret was against sanctions and the war. To commit such a crime against anyone is unforgivable. But we cannot believe how anybody could do this to our kind, compassionate sister."
Hassan, 59, was the Iraq director for CARE International when she was kidnapped from her car on Oct. 19 as she drove to work in Baghdad.
She had lived in Iraq for almost 30 years and holds British, Irish and Iraqi passports.
"It is with profound sadness that we have learned of the existence of a video in which it appears that our colleague Margaret Hassan has been killed," said CARE in a statement. "The whole of CARE is in mourning."
Hassan appeared in videotapes released by her captors, who are still unknown. They called on the British government to withdraw troops from Iraq.
In one of the videos, Hassan made an impassioned plea for her life, crying uncontrollably and collapsing.
The group holding her said they would hand her over to another group headed by Jordanian militant Abu Musab al-Zarqawi if Britain didn't withdraw its troops.
Al-Zarqawi's followers have killed at least six foreign hostages, including three Americans, a Briton, a Japanese and a South Korean.

On October 5, France expelled Algerian-born Imam Abdel Qader Bouziane for telling a French magazine that Muslim husbands may beat their wives. This follows the sentencing on January 14 of the Egyptian-born Sheik Muhammad Kamal Mustafa, the imam of the mosque of the Spanish city of Fuengirola, Costa del Sol, for publishing a book that explains that wife-beating is in accordance with Shariah law.
Sheik Yousuf Qaradhawi, one of the most influential clerics in Sunni Islam and head of the European Council for Fatwa and Research and the International Council of Muslim Clerics, has also advocated wife-beating on multiple occasions in his 1984 book "The Lawful and the Prohibited in Islam," and on his weekly Al Jazeera program, which is popular among the surging number of European Muslims who increasingly look to religious leaders from the Middle East for religious guidance. This is particularly true with the growth of viewers watching Arab TV stations, available on satellite TV in Europe, which frequently airs shows dedicated to teaching a husband how to beat his wife. Egyptian Professor Sabri Abd Al-Rauf of Al-Azhar University appeared on Iqra TV on September 13, and explained that "beating [one's wife] doesn't mean beatings with a rod or beatings that draw blood...The beatings are intended to instill fear...and declaring that he isn't satisfied with this wife."
Speaking on Syrian TV on July 26, Sheik Abd Al-Hamid Al-Muhajir explained that the Koran stipulates when a husband can beat his wife: "The Koranic verse refers only to a disobedient wife...First you must admonish...Then comes the stage of sending her to a separate bed...If this does not help either...it is said, 'and beat them'... What's better, that she gets slapped, or that she ruins her family, herself, and society?"
Sheik Muhammad Al-Mussayar, an Egyptian professor at Al-Azhar University, was interviewed about wife beating on Iqra TV on June 7. He described what kind of woman should be beaten: "She is a wife who rebelled against her husband's advice, and abandoning her in bed did not help."
As a member of the Egyptian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, Sheik Yousuf Al-Badri explained on Egypt's Dream2 TV on September 1,"I use beatings [on my children], but symbolically. The same goes for women: 'Admonish them and send them to beds apart and beat them...' There are beatings in the Koran and in the Sunna...This means we're allowed to beat."
On August 26, Qatar TV aired a panel discussion that included Dr. Ibrahim Elias, and the Director of The Women's Development Society, Imam Bibars, who discussed a study she performed in the Arab world: "I'd like to say that I found something that took me by surprise. I call it 'a culture of the electricity cable.' The men in the study did not know one another, but they all used to beat their wives with electricity cables. These cables are large and they would beat their wives." In defense of beatings, Dr. Elias, a lawyer, explained, "If you beat your wife and it's only light beatings in order to set things straight - that's it...We tell him, 'They are not considered an assault, but discipline.' "
Responding to the question, "What do you mean by light beatings?" he gave an example of when a man should be beat his wife: "For example, a man comes home from work and finds his wife watching TV. She doesn't even get up to make him food. He tells her once, twice, and asks again. If only once he would raise his voice and beat her, she would get up to prepare food for him and by the next day she'd be obedient. This will last for a week and when she forgets, he will remind her."
The following day on the same channel, a religious leader detailed three types of women who deserve beatings: "The first type is a girl who was brought up this way...The second type is a woman who is condescending towards her husband...With her, too, only a rod will help. The third type is a twisted woman who will not obey her husband unless he oppresses her, beats her, uses force against her, and overpowers her."
Unfortunately, the examples mentioned in this article are the rule, not the exception. TV shows dedicated to husbands beating their wives can be viewed regularly on Arab TV.

Arafat's Bedroom Farce

It is hard to find words adequate to describe the malevolent 40-year long career of the world's longest reigning terrorist (it began in January 1965), a man who fouled his nest in Jordan, Lebanon, and then in the West Bank and Gaza, a moral monster who fooled the world into thinking he had reformed (remember that Nobel Peace Prize?). Yet his farcical death-scene provides perhaps the appropriate coda to an unworthy life.
The mise-en-scène is as preposterous as what came before, only much funnier. First, there is the wife, Suha, a Greek Orthodox convert to Islam who nonetheless continued to observe Christian holidays and now bellows out "Allahu Akbar" as she spends a reputed $100,000 a month living the good life in Paris. Then there are the long-suffering minions, hoping to get their day in the sun, free at last of their irascible, unpredictable, domineering leader. Finally, there are the hapless French politicians, stung by their own stupidity in sending a military plane to Jordan to retrieve Arafat to Paris, then treating him like royalty (including a courtesy visit by President Jacques Chirac), only to find themselves parties to his death-bed antics.
Here are some of the specifics; as they say, you couldn't make this stuff up.
On Nov. 7, French foreign minister Michel Barnier told the LCI television channel that Arafat was alive, but "I would say he is in a state that is very complicated, very serious and stable at the time we are speaking." Asked if Arafat was already dead, Barnier memorably answered: "I wouldn't say that." The foreign minister of a major country, supposedly a serious man, has satisfyingly been made to look like an idiot.
What Arafat might be dying of has been conspicuously not mentioned, leading to many speculations. Of course, some Palestinians have hatched a conspiracy theory about Israel poisoning Arafat. The PLO's news service, WAFA, with a straight face demands an inquiry into the exact manner of his poisoning. "We have the right to know the type, the source of the poison as well as the antidote and how to get it," writes WAFA's political editor. More interesting, though, is the plausible thesis that the "president" is dying of AIDS, especially given his reputed pre-nuptial activities. David Frum elaborates on this hypothesis in National
Review Online:
We know he has a blood disease that is depressing his immune system. We know that he has suddenly dropped considerable weight – possibly as much as 1/3 of all his body weight. We know that he is suffering intermittent mental dysfunction. What does this sound like?
Former Romanian intelligence chief Ion Pacepa tells in his very interesting memoirs that the Ceaucescu regime taped Arafat's orgies with his body guards. If true, Arafat would a great deal to conceal from his people and his murderously anti-homosexual supporters in the Islamic world.
Before airlifting Arafat to Paris, French Foreign Minister Michel Barnier promised to "stand by" him. Was that why Arafat chose to be treated in France rather in any of the fraternal Arab countries that supposedly support his movement – because he could trust the French to protect his intimate secrets?
Meanwhile, the Israelis, when not lying low, give out that Arafat is "clinically dead."
Then there is this unique paragraph of Steven Erlanger in the New York Times:
Mr. Arafat's condition was described as unchanged by a spokesman for the French military hospital in Paris where Mr. Arafat is variously said to be in an irreversible coma, a reversible coma or no coma at all. The rumor of Saturday [Nov. 6] was that Mr. Arafat had sat up and waved at his doctors; the latest rumor on Sunday is that he has suffered liver failure - denied by Mr. [Nabil] Shaath - and is being kept alive on machines while his aides and his wife fight over his burial place and his bank accounts.
The allusion to a "fight over his burial place and his bank accounts"? There is widespread suspicion that Suha and her allies are pretending Arafat is still alive so that they have time to tussle with the Israeli authorities over getting him buried in Jerusalem and also plunder Arafat's bank accounts, reputed to be as much as billions of dollars. A "senior Palestinian banker" is quoted noting that Arafat alone knows the numbers of his secret accounts and these could well accompany him to the grave. "If the numbers die with him, then the Swiss bankers and other bankers worldwide will be rubbing their hands in glee."
Perhaps Suha has already dipped her delicate hand in the honey pot. An account in the Washington Times finds that shortly before Arafat was flown to France, Suha "received $60 million in her Paris bank account." And that's on top of an alleged $11.4 million deposited in her accounts between July 2002 and September 2003 (which French authorities are looking into). The same Washington Times article states that "At least 60 percent of the Palestinian Authority's budget comes from international aid contributions, of which the European Union is the largest donor." Translation: most of us Westerners share the privilege of footing the bill for Suha's legendary shopping expeditions.
It's no wonder they are angling to dispose of the corpse in Jerusalem, considering the state of Arafat's family burial plot in Khan Yunis, Gaza. Agence France-Presse vividly describes this decrepit site (the French original is even more colorful):
Unkempt, ankle deep in rubbish and the air thick with flies from the stinking market next door, the Arafat family plot could not be a more inauspicious burial place for the icon of Palestinian nationhood. …
Less than 100 square metres with two dozen tombs already in pride of place, a minimum of mourners would be able to crowd the site, stumbling over the roughshod ground to pay their last respects. Hidden behind a cement wall and accessible through a solitary white, metal door encrusted with mud, nothing could be less imposing or more humiliating for a man who is now unlikely to achieve his dream of a Palestinian state with its capital in Jerusalem.
Bin liners, a child's T-shirt and a traditional red keffiyeh (headdress of the type favoured by Arafat) are ground into the dust. Empty crisp bags, milk cartons, plastic bottles and broken glass are strewn across the burnt grass. Overgrown scarlet and white bougainvillia do nothing to sweeten the nauseating stench of rotting fruit and meat, laced with dung from half-dead donkeys tied up in the adjacent market.
Laundry hanging from a run-down high-rise flat flaps over the grave of Arafat's sister, Yussra al-Qidwa, who was laid to rest in August last year, alongside their father.
To the prospect of Arafat forever gracing the Holy City, Israel's justice minister Tommy Lapid said on Nov. 5, in perhaps the best one-liner of the whole sordid affair, that Arafat "will not be buried in Jerusalem because Jerusalem is the city where Jewish kings are buried and not Arab terrorists."
When four of Arafat's flunkies, including Ahmed Qurei, his pretend "prime minister," no longer could bear Suha's capricious ways, they announced a trip to Paris to hear directly from the doctors on the state of the great man's health. Suha responded viciously, calling up Al Jazeera television early on Nov. 8 and accusing the quartet of engaging in a "conspiracy" against Arafat. "Let it be known to the honest people of Palestine that a gang of would-be inheritors are coming to Paris," she screamed in a segment Al-Jazeera aired repeatedly. Using Arafat's nom de guerre, she warned: "You have to understand the scope of this conspiracy. I tell you, they are trying to bury alive Abu Ammar." She also added for good measure, "He is all right and he is going home."
To this, the flunkies replied by calling Suha "evil" and a "madwoman," and went anyway. Suha's stock response is "Every beautiful flower ends up surrounded by weeds."
To make matters yet more interesting, rumors have swirled around Arafat's military hospital that he twice refused to speak to Mahmoud Abbas, the PLO's number-two, by telephone and instead has on the quiet made Farouq Kaddumi his successor. Who, you might ask, is Farouq Kaddumi? Erlanger explains that he is a founder of the Palestine Liberation Organization who
rejected the Oslo accords and refused to return with Mr. Arafat to the West Bank and Gaza. He still lives in Tunis, where he retains the title of P.L.O. foreign minister, despite the fact that Mr. Shaath holds the Palestinian Authority's title of minister for external affairsGot that? The farce is complete, and Arafat dies as wretchedly as he lived.
Muslim: "Murder is Normal"
In an interview with a "moderate" Muslim from Amsterdam, following a sermon in which the imam of a local mosque denounced the Islamic assassination of Dutch filmmaker Theo Van Gogh:
Third man: This man (the imam) has given his personal response. He’s not expressing everyone’s point of view. Third man: Murder is normal. Why wouldn’t murder be normal? What happens in Iraq? What do the Americans do to the Iraqis? Did the Iraqis ask for that? That’s murder as well, and everone has accepted that. Everyone thinks that’s ‘deadly normal’.
The muslim theoretician Qutb taught that the very fact that a person is not a Muslim is an insult to Islam and a cause for jihad -- and therefore is justification for taking away that person's life.

Dutch film maker Theo van Gogh, who made a controversial film about Islamic culture, has been stabbed and shot dead in Amsterdam, Dutch police say.
Police arrested a man in a nearby park after an exchange of gunfire. The man, aged 26, had joint Dutch and Moroccan nationality, they said.
Van Gogh, 47, had received death threats after his film Submission was shown on Dutch TV.
It portrayed violence against women in Islamic societies.
The film was made with liberal Dutch politician Ayaan Hirsi Ali, a Somali refugee who fled an arranged marriage and had renounced Islam.

TEL AVIV - At least four people were killed Monday when a Palestinian suicide bomber blew himself up in an open-air market in central Tel Aviv, say Israeli police.
About 32 people were also injured in the blast, which took place at the city's Carmel market, which is full of fruit and vegetable stands in a series of narrow streets and alleyways.
Israeli police say they are searching for a car that may have carried the bomber, who had about five kilograms of explosives – about half the amount usually used by suicide bombers.
The Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, a radical faction of the Palestine Liberation Organization faction, has claimed responsibility for the bombing. There was no immediate verification of its claim.

Mosul (AsiaNews) – Violence against women and Christians and threats of forced islamisation are growing in Mosul. At the beginning of Ramadan, a flyer started appearing at Mosul University promising “death to all Iraqi women who did not cover their heads”. It was signed by a shadowy group calling itself the Mujahideen Parliament representing six armed groups: ‘Monotheism and martyrs’, the ‘Army of Sunnah members’, ‘Mujahideen Squads’, the ‘Islamic army’, the ‘Secret Islamic army’ and the ‘Sunnah members group’. It warned women against wearing make-up and Western-style clothes. “We will follow transgressors to their homes,” it said, “and shall not hesitate from striking you”.
A few days ago, two young women were attacked for not wearing a head cover in a Mosul market. A syringe containing nitric acid—a corrosive liquid inorganic acid— was sprayed onto their faces.
A process of islamisation of cultural and social mores similar to that imposed by the Talebans in Afghanistan or Khomeiny’s pasdarans in Iran is underway and its main targets are university students. Young Christian female students are especially singled out. In another flyer signed by a group calling itself the “phalanxes to settle scores with collaborators and spies”, Christians are accused of spreading “corruption and shamelessness in the streets”. They will “suffer violence and persecution in their homes and their churches” if they do not stop “cooperating with the infidel invader”.
Vancouver Muslim leader espouses jihad, calls Jews 'monkeys and swine'

VANCOUVER (CP) - The leader of a Vancouver mosque attended regularly by a local man reported killed in Chechnya (news - web sites) has preached the virtues of jihad and called Jews "the brothers of monkeys and swine."
In a lecture posted on the mosque's website, Sheik Younus Kathrada tells an audience all real Muslims want to be martyred. "It is inconceivable that a true believer will not desire martyrdom," Kathrada says.
"When we hear of our fellow Muslims in Palestine and what they're going through to try and defend that great land for us, the Muslims, that individual should wish that he was there."
In a recording of another lecture obtained by The Canadian Press, Kathrada lashes out at Israelis for killing Hamas founder Sheik Ahmed Yassin late last March.
"We know what happened over the last week and how the brothers of the monkeys and the swine assassinated and murdered one of the heroes of Islam, the Salah al-Din of this day and age, Ahmed Yassin."
Kathrada tells his audience the Qur'an and its accompanying writings view Jews as treacherous people with whom Muslims will engage in an apocalyptic battle.
"The prophet . . . said the final hour will not be established until such time as the Muslims will battle and will fight against the Jews," Kathrada says.
"Then what will happen? Listen to the good news after that. The prophet . . . says that the stone and the tree will say 'oh Muslim, oh slave of Allah, that verily behind me is a Jew. Then come and kill him.' "
Kathrada, who works out of the Dar al-Madinah Islamic Society mosque in east Vancouver, said Thursday he could not remember when he gave these talks.
"If it's on there and my name is on it then I must have. I don't recall the date," he said.
Kathrada refused to explain the meaning behind the tirade against Jews.
"I guess if you heard the lecture then it should be clear to you," he said.
But he defended his characterization of Jews as treacherous monkeys and pigs.
"I guess no rougher than what is used against us," Kathrada said. "It's in our Qur'an."
Rudwan Khalil Abubaker, also known as Rudwan Khalil, regularly attended the Dar al-Madinah mosque along with his brother Amir.
Russian authorities identified Khalil as one of four men killed in a skirmish with Chechen rebels earlier this month. They displayed his Canadian passport and B.C. driver's licence and claimed he was an explosives expert.
His family in Vancouver said they believed Khalil and his friend Kamal Elbahja of suburban Maple Ridge, B.C., were headed to a wedding in neighbouring Baku, Azarbaijan.
Elbahja has disappeared and the bridegroom, former Vancouver resident Azar Tagiev, has also not been seen.
The Foreign Affairs Department met Wednesday in Moscow with Russian officials who so far have not confirmed that one of the four men killed by special forces was Khalil.
Speaking to a reporter after the initial report of Khalil's death, Kathrada said that while the plight of Muslims in Chechnya and other parts of the world was discussed at his mosque, no one talked about going to fight there.
Kathrada said Thursday he couldn't add any more to what he'd said previously.
Sources who know the family say Khalil and his brother regularly sat in on Kathrada's lectures, though none could say if they heard him expound on jihad or the Jews.
Kathrada, a native of South Africa's Indian community, said he has been at Dar al-Madinah for about six years. Before that, he was a Muslim chaplain at the University of Victoria after studying in Saudi Arabia.
Other members of the Muslim community say Kathrada, a Sunni Muslim, was active in the Vancouver area's interfaith movement.
"I'm told that he's quite open," said Aziz Khaki of the Committee for Racial Justice, who met him at the opening of a new mosque in suburban Port Coquitlam last year.
"He did speak there and he spoke in very good terms to say we should build bridges with the Abrahamic faiths of Judaism and Christianity and we should be open to dialogue and something like that."
In his lecture on jihad, Kathrada says the term refers to physical fighting and includes the idea of offensive jihad.
"When the Muslims have a leader, when the Muslims have the strength and the ability to take on an enemy, then absolutely they call the other nations towards Islam," he says.
"Should they reject the message then they will declare war upon them. That is what we know as the offensive jihad.
"There is a good reason for that. It is in order to establish security on this Earth. It is so that the word of Allah will be the superior word."
Kathrada's view of Jewish treachery is apparently rooted in a seventh-century doublecross of Mohammed by Jewish residents of Medina.
But Aziz said it has no relevance to historic relations between Muslims and Jews, who lived peacefully in Moorish-controlled Spain and in Ottoman Turkey.

Islamic terrorism is Islamic

Can we drop the 'Islamic terror' tag and call it only terrorism? Lord Carey, the former Archbishop of Canterbury thinks so.
“Drop 'Islamic terror' tag” said Carey in BBC Radio 4 on 29 September 2004. “The term Islamic should be dropped when referring to terrorists in a bid to deprive a terrorist of his religious legitimacy and to foster better relations between the West and Islam,” Lord Carey stated. “It would also send a clear message” added Carey, “to the average Muslim that they were not being blamed for terrorist attacks.” "He wants religious justification for his evil deeds, and we shouldn't give it to him," Lord Carey said.
Carey also talked about building bridges by helping “the average Muslim to understand that we are not blaming Islam for this. We're blaming that tiny, tiny minority of people who are using Islam as a weapon to get their own back against the West and to undermine all we're trying to do." He also reiterated his call for Muslims to denounce terrorism more often."Terrorists are very evil people and I want to hear Muslims say that more and more," he said.
However, terrorism is not a common crime. It is a crime motivated by an ideology. Islamic terrorism is a crime of faith. The Muslim terrorists are Islamic to the core. To them this is a religious war. They read the Qur’an, get excited and kill people while shouting, “Allah is great.”The Muslim terrorist is a devout Muslim who has hearkened to the call of his Prophet and has risen to do Jihad. Jihad is obligatory on all able-bodied Muslims. It is a pillar of Islam and its importance is second only to prayers.
The Muslim terrorist does not seek legitimacy from his victims. He gets his legitimacy from his holy book the Qur’an. Talks like Carey’s only show how little westerners know about Islam. The problem is that they continue to judge Islam according to their own perspective and value systems, which is very much different from those of Islam.
It is this lack of understanding, this ignorance of Islam that allows Islam to proliferate in the West and provide a fertile ground for the expansion of Islamic terrorism right under the nose of the westerners.
The next mistake of Lord Carey is in his desire to “build bridges” between Islam and the West. This concept is so naïve that I can only compare it with the foolish hope of a sheep in fostering friendship with the wolf.
What does the “average Muslim” mean? Is Carey talking about the Muslims who are not too Islamic and do not practice Islam? We have either Muslims or non-Muslims. If one is a Muslim one believes in everything Muhammad said including Jihad. The “average Muslim” can’t denounce Jihad because that would be going against the teachings of Muhammad. Why are there no marches in Islamic countries denouncing terrorism? Muslims are after all very excitable people and all it takes to bring them out into the streets shouting hysterically at the “enemies of Islam” is a fatwa. The reason there are no such demonstrations and fatwas is because they would be un-Islamic. No Mullah could issue a decree that would go against the explicit teachings of the Qur’an.
In only one Islamic country people poured into the streets shouting, “Death to the terrorists,” that was in Iran after 9/11. The reason is that the majority of Iranians, after a quarter of century of "close encounter" with Islam, are no longer “true believer” Muslims.
The truth is that Islamic terrorism is as much Islamic as are Hajj, fasting or prayer. In fact Jihad is even more important than Hajj. Unfortunately, you won’t have Muslims denouncing terrorism unless you take Islam away from them.
The final lesson in this story is that the westerners know nothing about Islam. Lord Carey is still reluctant to blame Islam and blames only a "tiny, tiny minority" for Islamic terrorism. This ignorance (said descriptively not pejoratively) is what will bring them to their doom. The only way they can confront the threat of terrorism is to confront the ideology behind it and destroy the belief system that regards terror as a means of achieving God's pleasure. We can't praise a religion that prescribes terror and then expect its followers not to practice it. Islam must be abolished. The later we come to accept this fact, the more lives will be lost.
Do not sugarcoat your speeches. Do not tell Muslims that their religion is peaceful but is hijacked by terrorists. This is a blatant lie. Tell them in their face that their religion is evil and they must leave it or leave your lands.
Islam is an avowed enemy of democracy of freedom of human rights of your constitution of our country and of you. You will not have peace until you fight it and eliminate it.

An Islamic spiritual leader scheduled for arraignment today on charges of counseling others to engage in a holy war against America told followers that he was "overjoyed" by the crash of the space shuttle Columbia, which killed six U.S. astronauts and one Israeli. According to court records, Ali Al-Timimi, 40, of Fairfax, a primary lecturer at the Dar al Arqam Islamic Center in Falls Church, also known as the Center for Islamic Information and Education, said the Feb. 1, 2003, disintegration of the Columbia as it entered the Earth's atmospere brought welcome adversity to the United States.
"This morning, the world heard news about the crash of the space shuttle," Mr. Al-Timimi said, according to a six-count indictment handed up in U.S. District Court in Alexandria. "There is no doubt that Muslims were overjoyed because of the adversity that befell their greatest enemy.
"Upon hearing the news, my heart felt certain good omens that I liked to spread to my brothers," Mr. Al-Timimi said. The space shuttle disintegrated 40 miles above the Earth. Debris and human remains were scattered over thousands of square miles in Texas and Louisiana. The seven astronauts were commander Rick Husband; pilot William McCool; payload commander Michael Anderson; mission specialists David Brown, Laurel Clark and Kalpana Chawla, a naturalized U.S. citizen from India; and Israel's first astronaut, Ilan Ramon.
Mr. Al-Timimi, a U.S. citizen, was indicted last week by a federal grand jury in Alexandria on charges of counseling members of the so-called Virginia jihad to wage holy war against the United States. He also was accused of aiding the Taliban regime in Afghanistan, violating the Neutrality Act, using firearms in the furtherance of crimes of violence and counseling others to use firearms and explosives.
He is scheduled for arraignment before U.S. District Judge Leonie M. Brinkema in Alexandria. If convicted, he faces life in prison. U.S. Attorney Paul J. McNulty said Mr. Al-Timimi helped members of the Virginia jihad, mostly U.S. citizens, conspire to make war against the United States, supply services to the Taliban, take part in military action against foreign states, and use, carry, possess and discharge firearms and explosives in furtherance of crimes of violence.
The indictment said Mr. Al-Timimi told followers after the shuttle crash that the loss of the Columbia made him "feel good" and that it was a "strong signal that Western supremacy [especially that of America] that began 500 years ago is coming to a quick end ... as occurred to the shuttle."
It said Mr. Al-Timimi, noting that the Israeli ambassador to the United Nations had said Mr. Ramon was carrying all the hopes and ambitions of the Israeli people, told his followers, "All these hopes and ambitions were burnt with the crash and the burning of the shuttle and one of its astronauts, the Israeli."
It also said Mr. Al-Timimi said because the shuttle crashed near Palestine, Texas, "America will fall and disappear nearby Palestine." According to the indictment, within five days of the September 11 attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon by 19 al Qaeda terrorists, Mr. Al-Timimi told Virginia jihad members Masoud Ahmad Khan, Randall Todd Royer, Yong Ki Kwon, Mohammed Aatique and Khwaja Hasan to join the mujahideen in Afghanistan,adding that U.S. troops in that country were legitimate targets and that they had a duty to "engage" them.
Mr. Al-Timimi has denied wrongdoing. Royer, 30, of Falls Church; Kwon, 27, of Fairfax; Aatique, 30, of Norristown, Pa.; and Hasan, 27, of Alexandria, later pled guilty in the case, along with Donald Surratt, 30, of Suitland; and Ibrahim Al-Hamdi, 28, of Alexandria. Khan, 31, of Gaithersburg; Seifullah Chapman, 30, of Alexandria; and Hammad Abdur-Raheem, 35, of Falls Church, were convicted in March of terrorism-related offenses.
