Mar 22, 2007 02:13 PM Associated PressLONDON — British counter-terrorist police said today they arrested three suspects in the deadly suicide bomb attacks on the London transit system in 2005. Two of the men were picked up just before boarding a plane to Pakistan.
No one has ever been charged in connection with the July 7, 2005, bombings, which were the deadliest attack on London since World War II. The four bombers and 52 commuters died in blasts on three subway trains and a double-decker bus, and more than 700 people were injured.
London’s Metropolitan Police said two men, ages 23 and 30, were arrested at Manchester Airport in northwest England as they prepared to board a flight to Pakistan. The third man, 26, was detained at a house in Leeds, a city in northern England where police were searching five houses.
All were arrested on suspicion of committing, preparing or instigating acts of terrorism, and authorities aid they were being taken to a central London police station for questioning.
The houses being searched were all in Beeston, a working-class area of Leeds that was home to three of the 2005 bombers. Officers also were searching an apartment and a business in east London.
The coordinated attacks on London commuters were the first suicide bombings on European soil. The attack was followed two weeks later by a copycat plot in which four bombs failed to detonate.
Three of the suicide bombers — Mohammed Sidique Khan, 30, Shehzad Tanweer, 22, and Hasib Hussain, 18 — were British-born men of Pakistani descent who grew up in the ethnically mixed Leeds area, about 200 miles from London. The fourth, Germaine Lindsay, 19, was born in Jamaica and raised in Britain.
The revelation that seemingly unremarkable British residents could become suicide bombers caused soul-searching across the country and raised fears of a threat from homegrown terrorists.
An official account of the attacks published last year concluded the plotters who inspired and prepared the bombers were likely still at large.
The investigation seemed to have stalled, but the Metropolitan Police said officials remained “determined to follow the evidence wherever it takes us to identify any other person who may have been involved, in any way, in the terrorist attacks.’’
Two suspects were previously detained by British police in 2005. One was released without charge, and the other was charged with wasting police time.
In addition, Magdy el-Nashar, an Egyptian chemist, was taken into custody by Egyptian authorities a week after the attack when British officials said he was suspected of possibly having links with some of the bombers.
He was let go after three weeks, and Egyptian authorities said he had no involvement in the attack. El-Nashar told reporters then that he casually knew two of the suicide bombers while earning a doctorate in biochemistry at the University of Leeds.

The timing could not be more apposite. After the humorless banalities of the CBC's Little Mosque on the Prairie come the grotesque realities of Channel 4's Undercover Mosque in the U.K.

Journalists from Channel 4's Dispatches programme conducted a 10-month undercover assignment in several of Britain's leading mosques. The resulting segment, Undercover Mosque, was aired on Jan. 15.

What is particularly relevant is that Dispatches has an international reputation for excellence and, important this, for its general left-wing approach to political issues. As such, the producers decided to investigate not those Muslim centres renowned for their extremism but various large, influential and allegedly moderate Islamic holy places.

What it found has provoked waves of shock. Several preachers and imams call for holy war, tell congregations that Muslims have to brainwash people, demand that homosexuals be murdered, insist that girls who refuse to wear the hijab should be beaten, and routinely demand that Christians and Jews be killed.

At one mosque in Birmingham, Abu Usama, one of the most popular speakers, says that Muslims have to "form a state within a state, until we take over." He says that in this state any Muslim who tried to leave Islam would be killed. "If the Imam wants to crucify him he could crucify him. The

person is put up on the wood and he's left there to bleed to death."

The documentary also shows a preacher joking about harming gay people secretly so as not to break the law. He laughs as he tells Muslim dentists to thrust extra- large needles into the faces of gay patients.

This is all especially embarrassing for the government because one of its main advisors on Islam, a Muslim member of the House of Lords, attends this particular mosque and speaks highly of it.

Another preacher in Birmingham, Dr. Billal Phillips, explains that as Muhammad married Aisha, a nine-year-old girl, all such marriages are condoned. "The prophet Muhammad practically outlined the rules regarding marriage prior to puberty. With this practice, he clarified what is permissible."

Referring to non-Muslims, another preacher says that, "No one loves the kuffaar [i.e., non-Muslims]. We hate the kuffaar! Allah has not given those people who are kuffaar a way over the believer. They shouldn't be in authority over us. Muslims shouldn't be satisfied with anything other than a total Islamic state."

The book store of the Regents Park Mosque, the largest in London, sells popular videos of the Saudi-trained Sheikh Faiz calling Jews "pigs" who will all be slaughtered. He then makes the sound of a pig and the audience laughs. In fact, throughout the sermons and lessons there is no sign of disagreement or discomfort from anyone in the packed congregations.

The Taliban is praised for killing British soldiers, and followers are repeatedly told to despise Western society. Muslims are condemned if they send their children to kuffaar schools or allow them to play with kuffaars.

The response so far has been that the documentary is mere propaganda. Tragically, it is not. It appears to be an accurate and objective expose of common teaching within those mosques that were until now considered to be standing on the front line against extremism. We would be foolish not to listen to what these Muslims are telling us.

Muslim Extremist Wants Flag of Islam Over Ireland

By now it should come as no surprise that Islamic extremists aren’t content to peacefully live out their lives on holy Islamic soil, but rather insist that the entire world succomb to the joys of sharia law. Nonetheless, the things some of them say and do never fails to amaze. Nor can one fail to be amazed at the openness with which they are received into Western society in the name of extreme multiculturalism and free, open debate.

It would seem that no Western European country is free from the possibility of becoming predominantly Muslim by mid-century, if not by conquest, then by simple demographics. European populations seem strangely averse to reproducing themselves while the attitude on that subject of the Muslim immigrants in their midst is basically no holds barred.

But that doesn’t mean that a little violence isn’t fully justified along the way of that seeming demographic inevitability and even the Emerald Island of Ireland is vulnerable, at least according to one Islamic extremist who recently spoke in Dublin. The following excerpts come from an article in an Irish paper:

The flag of Islam should be flown over Leinster House, an Islamic extremist said tonight.

Speaking in Dublin before addressing a Trinity College debate, Anjem Choudray also reiterated controversial views that Muslim violence is justified in certain circumstances.

The British-born lawyer, 39, angered the Irish Government last year when he said that Ireland risked becoming a target for a 9/11 style attack because it allowed US war planes to refuel at Shannon Airport.

Mr Choudray said: “As a Muslim, I believe Islam is superior to every other way of life and that it can resolve all the social and economic problems that Ireland suffers from.

“And as a symbol of that, the flag of Islam should be flown over the Dáil.

“This is symbolic of the fact that all societies will be run better according to God’s law.”

Mr Choudray, who has visited Ireland several times, was invited by the Philosophical Society at Trinity College to debate Islamic violence with other speakers.

Referring to the US military stopovers at Shannon Airport, he said tonight: “If US warplanes are using Irish soil, then Ireland is seen as aiding and abetting the war on so-called terror.

“Ireland says it has a position of neutrality but I don’t think it is seen that way in the Muslim world at all.”

Mr Choudray also warned that the Pope must be careful with his public statements so that he doesn’t offend Islam.

And taking top honors for Mr. Choudray’s most harebrained remark: “As a Muslim, I believe Islam is superior to every other way of life and that it can resolve all the social and economic problems that Ireland suffers from.”

Sure, just look what it’s done for that vast swath of the planet that stretches from Morocco to Indonesia. A wretched, ignorant, violent, poverty-ridden fever swamp from end to end. That’s Islam for you: quashing human potential for 14 centuries! Allahu Akbar!
And it can do the same for the Emerald Isle.

It would all be doubled-over, falling-down hilarious if it weren’t for two worrisome factors (in addition to the demographic one already mentioned): 1.) Europe’s inexplicable unwillingness to defend its own culture and heritage; and 2.) Islam’s aggressive tendencies combined with extreme irrationality and lack of moral boundaries (i.e., suicide bombings).

Suffice it to say, unless the West wakes up, its civilization, which has brought the world almost every blessing of modernity it enjoys, can be replaced in short order by something far less palatable.

Al-Qaida in Iraq" and its allies issued a statement addressing the Pope as "a cross-worshipper" and warning, "You and the West are doomed, as you can see from the defeat in Iraq, Afghanistan, Chechnya and elsewhere.

"You infidels and despots, we will continue our jihad (holy war) and never stop until God avails us to chop your necks and raise the fluttering banner of monotheism, when God's rule is established governing all people and nations," said the statement by the Mujahedeen Shura Council, an umbrella organization of Sunni Arab extremist groups in Iraq.

Another Iraqi extremist group, Ansar al-Sunna, challenged "sleeping Muslims" to prove their manhood by doing something other than "issuing statements or holding demonstrations."

"If the stupid pig is prancing with his blasphemies in his house," the group said in a web statement, referring to the Pope, "then let him wait for the day coming soon when the armies of the religion of right knock on the walls of Rome."

In Iran, supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei used the comments to call for protests against the United States. He argued that while the Pope may have been deceived into making his remarks, the words give the West an "excuse for suppressing Muslims" by depicting them as terrorists.

'Nice' people finish last

So, have you dropped the idea of sewing a cute little Canadian flag onto your backpack to endear yourself to strangers when you holiday this year? There goes another precious Canadian conceit.

It seems that even the unbearable niceness of being Canadian won't keep you safe in this dreadful new world of ours. The smug Canuck smile has surely been wiped off your face by the gory details of the alleged Muslim terrorists' plans uncovered in Toronto.

Two weeks out, it is apparent from police and security services reports that this may be just the beginning. There are still wannabe terrorists out there, determined to explode a few bombs, kill a few Canadians, maybe behead a politician or two.

It's difficult to find anyone involved in security who won't guarantee a deadly attack of some sort or other. Any day now.

All that hatred, all those evil vibes, unleashed here in little old Canada, where we wouldn't say Shiite if they were coming through the windows with knives clenched in their teeth.

Canada is the inoffensive international nice guy, kicking in with foreign aid by the millions and an enlightened immigration policy.

We've been had, folks.

All that time we've been employing euphemisms and politically-correct speak so as not to antagonize the Muslim world, the radical Islamist leaders have been recruiting every malcontent and schizoid they can find to kill us and our children. Like a pack of crazed salesmen for jihad, they have been searching for weak minds and strong backs to do their dirty work.

It is clear that to extremist Muslims, we are no more or less than Americans with more snow and a trusting nature. We are white, rich, soft and decadent. We are infidels.

But don't be fooled. Their rage is not really born of religious principles or even extreme Islamic visions. It's not the result of American intervention in some Muslim nations.

That these extremists have apparently set up operations on such a broad scale here in Canada shows them for what they really are -- thugs, enraged by our standard of living, jealous of our freedom and our good life. Thugs, drawn to the zealotry like flies to excrement, fascinated by gruesome tales of mass killings and twisted promises of virgins at the end of it all.

They may have been fed propaganda by the truck load, they may have been taught that America is the great Satan, responsible for their every ill, they may have been filled to overflowing with the notion that Islam is the one true religion. But they are, nonetheless, still just thugs.

We flatter them

To impugn to them motives any more noble is to flatter them. To muse about the root causes of their discontent is to waste time while they gather even more recruits and strength. To think a little understanding and a few more foreign aid dollars will help is downright foolish. Thugs will be thugs.

The time has come for the international Muslim community to take some responsibility. It's time to squeal their heads off to security forces everywhere when they know something. Time to drop the dime on friends, neighbours, associates -- to show some courage and old-fashioned fortitude. Time to stop whining about a possible backlash against ordinary, law-abiding Muslims and begin to participate in the solution.

We don't need another lecture on our insensitivity to the Muslim world. We need help.

Muslims have got to root out the thugs hiding in their midst, as several of their leaders in Canada have stated. Unless this happens, we will really see a backlash -- or worse.

Canadians may be nice, but we're not stupid.

Prohibition of Songs

First Khutbah

Dear brothers, the battle between Satan, supported by his human and jinn soldiers, and the believers is endless; it never ceases. We experience this battle each day, hour and even each minute. On the very day that Allaah cursed him and dismissed him down to earth, Satan swore that he would wage a bitter war in which he would mobilize all those he could manage to corrupt. He adopted many methods and different means in order to trap the children of Aadam. Among such traps through which he snares people with little religious knowledge and understanding is listening to songs accompanied by prohibited musical instruments. Songs make the heart deviate from the Holy Qur'aan and turn towards ugly deeds and vices. They are the "holy books" of Satan and the thick veil that stands as a stumbling block between a person and his Lord. It is the gate to adultery and sodomy. It is the means adopted by dissipated lovers in order to attain their ends. It is the method through which vicious jinns harm mankind.

Almost all people, save those whom Allaah chose, are taken to singing to the extent that you may find a father teaching his child how to sing and encourage him to do this ugly deed. It has more than ten different names in religion. It is called idle tales, nonsense, falsehood, whistling and clapping, the gate to adultery, the holy book of Satan, the source of hypocrisy in hearts, the foolish voice, the dissolute voice, the voice of Satan, the piper of Satan, and Sumood (singing in the dialect of the old people of Yemen).

Its names indicate its characteristics. What evil and wicked names! As for its first name, it has been mentioned in Allaah's saying which means: "But there are, among men, those who purchase idle tales, without knowledge (or meaning), to mislead (men) from the Path of Allaah and throw ridicule (on the Path): for such there will be a humiliating Penalty. When Our Signs are rehearsed to such a one, he turns away in arrogance, as if he heard them not, as if there were deafness in both his ears: announce to him a grievous Penalty." ( Luqmaan: 6-7).

Ibn Mas`ood said: "I swear by Allaah that these "idle tales" are nothing but songs." He repeated it thrice. Ibn `Umar and Ibn `Abbaas, may Allaah be pleased with them, said the very same thing. These Companions were living when the Qur'aan was revealed and hence they are among the most versed in interpreting the words of Allaah. They interpreted these "idle tales" as songs. You will never find any person taken to singing and listening to musical instruments without at least a degree of deviation from true guidance. He does not have the desire to listen to the Qur'aan and even prefers songs to it, to the extent that if he had to choose between the two, he would listen to songs. Even if he listens to the Qur'aan, he finds it hard to understand and assimilate it, and this may lead him to ask the one reciting to stop his recitation session because he feels that it is too long. As for songs, he asks the singer for more and feels that the song was very short.

A man came to Ibn `Abbaas, may Allaah be pleased with him, and asked him: “What is the legal judgment pertaining to singing? Is it permissable or prohibited?” Ibn `Abbaas replied: “On the Day of Judgment, will singing be classified with truth or falsehood?” The man said: “With falsehood”. Ibn `Abbaas commented: “You have reached the judgment yourself”.

Songs are the gateway to adultery as they contain inviting the beloved to an appointment, sitting with him (her) alone, practicing love, friendship, and lamentation over missing him (her). Besides this, songs call for dissolution of the veiling of women. Al-Fudhayl Ibn `Iyaadh said: “Songs are the gate to adultery”. Yazeed bin Al-Waleed also said: “O Bani Umayyah, beware of songs. They decrease decency, increase lust, and do away with one's integrity. It has the very same effect of wine and even replaces it. If you have no alternative but to listen to songs, do not let your women do the same, because songs are the gateway to adultery”.

Women are more affected by songs, musical tunes and the meanings of their words than any one else. Listening to songs may lead a girl to fall in love with the singer, to the degree that his songs and pictures are never far away from her mind. Is there an evil temptation greater than this? Many are the decent girls who have become prostitutes because of such songs.

Songs cultivate hypocrisy in one's heart just like grains grow and thrive in the presence of water, as Ibn Mas`ood said. Songs and Qur'aan can never co-exist in a believer's heart because of their contradictory nature. The Qur'aan enjoins us not to follow our lusts, or the footsteps of Satan and to stick, instead, to virtuousness. As for songs, they invite us to the opposite.

Is it not true that songs encourage one to satisfy his lusts? Don't they motivate one to practice each and every bad deed? Don't they tempt a person to have an affair with a woman or even a child? Songs and wine are companions, and they tempt one to commit sins and evil deeds. Satan made a bargain between these two evils so that, together, they will support each other in calling to corruption. Songs lead to prohibited adoration and committing ugly deeds. O Allaah, keep us away from Your Wrath and things which lead to Your Punishment. Hereby I end my sermon and ask Allaah for forgiveness.

Second Khutbah

All praise be to Allaah, the Lord of the Worlds Who guides whomever He wills to His straightforward path. May Allaah have peace, mercy and blessings on His slave and Messenger, Muhammad, his family and Companions.

Our Prophet sallallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam warned against listening to songs and musical instruments, as he said: "There will be people of my Community who will hold fornication, silk, wine, and musical instruments to be lawful'' (Bukhaari)

If such things mentioned in the hadith had been lawful, the Prophet sallallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam would have never condemned those who consider them legal, and he would not have mentioned them along with the already prohibited wine and silk.

Sahl bin S`ad As-Sa`di reported that the Prophet sallallaahu 'alaihi wasallam said: "This Community will experience the swallowing up of some people by the earth, the metamorphosis of some into animals, and being rained upon with stones.'' Someone asked, ``When will this be, O Messenger of Allah?''. He said, ``When female singers and musical instruments appear and wine is held to be lawful.''(Ahmad & Tirmithi)

The four Imaams ruled singing to be prohibited. Imaam Maalik used to prohibit it and say: It is done by wicked people. He also said: If one bought a slave girl and found that she is a singer, he has the full right to return her because of this defect.

Abu Haneefah hated singing and considered it a sin. His followers believed that listening to all musical instruments, such as the pipe (wind instrument) is prohibited. They also said that it is a sin that makes the person to be considered dissolute and his testimony is not accepted.

As for Shaafi`i, his followers believe that listening to songs is prohibited. They also said that hiring a singer, practicing songs as a profession, giving money to a singer as a remuneration are all prohibited just like giving money in return of the already prohibited animal's blood and corpse. They also believe that using a pipe is prohibited. If the pipe, which is the simplest of all musical instruments is prohibited, what about the flute and other instruments?

As for Ahmed's School of Jurisprudence, his son `Abdullaah said: I asked my father about singing, and he replied: It cultivates hypocrisy in hearts and therefore I do not like it. Then he mentioned the saying of Imaam Maalik: It is done by dissolute (loose or evil) people.

As for listening to songs sung by a female or a beardless lad, it is considered as one of the gravest sins that corrupts one's religion.

Dear brother, if you commit this sin or your family does it at home, hasten to repent to Allaah for He is the Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful as He said which means: "Tell My servants that I am indeed the Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful." (Al-Hijr: 49).

Hasten to sincere repentance and know that whenever a person gives up an evil act for the sake of Allaah, Allaah will compensate him with far better than what he abandoned. I would like to express my gratitude to those who abstain from committing sins and abandon evil acts and deeds practiced by the people of our time. They are the ones who have attained true happiness.

Former New York Mayor Rudolph Giuliani has described seeing the horror of the 9/11 attacks on the city's twin towers.

He told the trial of Zacarias Moussaoui he had been unwilling to believe people were jumping from the buildings until he saw it with his own eyes.

The jury has to decide whether the self-confessed al-Qaeda member Moussaoui should be executed. Mr Giuliani testified for the prosecution.

The court will also hear from relatives of some of those killed in the attacks.

Mr Giuliani told the jury the image of two people jumping together from the World Trade Center, holding hands, remained with him every day.

Describing the moment he saw people falling, he said: "I froze. I realised that in a couple of seconds, it switched my thinking and emotions. I said 'We're in uncharted territory'."

During Mr Giuliani's testimony, the jury was played video clips of the planes crashing into the twin towers, and people jumping from the buildings.

It was the worst thing I have ever seen in my life

The former mayor, who was sitting next to scale models of the World Trade Center in court, said: "By the time the second plane hit, we knew for sure it was a terrorist attack."

He added that after the towers collapsed, it looked like a "nuclear cloud" was going through Manhattan, Reuters news agency reported.

The scene at the World Trade Center site was "horrid".

"It was the worst thing I have ever seen in my life," Mr Giuliani told the jury.

"You could see parts of human bodies, hands and legs, a lot of injured... this was a war, this was a battle, we were attacked," the AFP news agency quoted him as saying.

News agencies reported that during a morning break in proceedings when the judge and jury were out of the court, Moussaoui sang "Burn in the USA" - apparently adapting the lyrics of the Bruce Springsteen song "Born in the USA".

If there was any doubt that this cocksucker and his religion of death were antithetical to civilization - this was it.

This happens so rarely, that I was shocked when I read this. An American muslim aknowledging that islam needs reformation. How many muslim bloggers can admit, as he does, the crimes of islam? Not many I suspect...

'Cancer in its midst'

During the dark days of our Revolution, Thomas Paine wrote, "That these are the times, that try men's souls." As an American Muslim, I feel the sentiment of these words like a red-hot brand on my brain.

I have watched horrified as assassins have read out the words from my Holy Koran before slitting the throats of some poor innocent souls. To my non-comprehending eyes, I have seen mothers proudly support their sons' accomplishment of blowing up innocent people as they eat or travel. It shatters some part of me, to see my faith as an instrument for butchery.

It makes me hope and pray for some counter-movement within my faith which will push back all this darkness. And I know that it must start with what is most basic -- the common truth that binds all religions: "Do unto others, as you would have them do onto you." The Golden Rule.

But that is not what I am seeing taught in a great deal of the Muslim world today, and, unfortunately, in America it's just not much better.

Night after night, I see Muslim national organizations like the Council for American-Islamic Relations, or CAIR, cry out over and over about anecdotal victimization while saying and doing absolutely nothing about the most vile hate-speak and actions toward Jews and Christians in the Muslim world. It is the most self-serving of outrage.

The question I ask myself in the darkness of my own night is, "How did my beautiful faith become so linked with such ugliness." To me, the answer is both deep and simple. A spiritual path must be only about the spiritual while a worldly path must be about this world. When the two get mixed together, it brings out the very worst in both.

Much of what passes today for religious thought and action is actually political. When I hear a sermon in a mosque about the horrors of Israeli occupation, I know that the political arena has taken over the spiritual one. When I see the actions of suicide bombers praised or excused by religious leaders, I know that this politicization is complete. But the current Muslim leadership in groups like CAIR and others want only to talk of victimization. So, it is now high time for a new movement by Muslims in America and the West.

We in the Muslim community need to develop a new paradigm for our organizations and think tanks which holds Muslims publicly accountable for the separation of the political from the spiritual. Gone should be the day where individuals and their organizations can hide behind the cloak of victimization as a smoke screen for what they really believe.

I do believe that religions have cycles that they go through. Christianity was once a highly intolerant faith. Jews were labeled as "Christ killers" and the colored peoples of the Third World were people whose native faith was like ragged clothes to be torn off their bodies.

Thank God those days are over. Now my faith community must do the same. It should be the true test of a Muslim, not so much how he treats a fellow Muslim but how he treats someone of another faith.

Time is not on our side and the volatile radical minority of Muslims could strike again at any time. But, while true change among Muslims may take generations, our history teaches us that once we start the ideological battle, nothing can counter the power of freedom, pluralism and the desire for human rights.

There are some small signs that my community is finally beginning to wake up to the cancer in its midst. We are learning something that was the central lesson of World War II -- that once aroused, evil never stays self-contained.

For many in my faith, it was all right to blow up innocent Israelis as they sat in their cafes and pizza parlors. Through some tortured act of logic, these suicide bombings were seen as some sort of legitimate religion-sanctioned acts. (All the while, notice how few Muslim organizations like CAIR will denounce Hamas by name). But, as evil always does, it migrates, and soon radical Muslims were blowing up little children in Russia, commuters in Spain and worshippers in one of Iraq's holiest mosques.

Maybe our first true wake-up call was Abu Musab al-Zarqawi's homicide attack on the wedding party in Jordan. Because now, the evil unleashed on the occupying Jews had landed on the doorstep of Muslims as they partook in a joyous wedding day.

That is the lesson that we in the Muslim community are now learning. Do evil to anyone and eventually it will boomerang on you. Perhaps, that's a good place to start. Let the barometer of our faith be how we treat our Jewish friends, because in the end, that is how we will eventually treat ourselves.

I was debating on another blog with well-known jihadi apologist Abu Sinan about why some lone Afghani convert to Christianity needs to die. He amusingly claimed that:

"First of all, death for apostasy is not mandated by The Qur'an, that is obvious by all. Those who claim it is Sunnfh(the sayings and actions of the Prophet) stand on shaky ground." In fact, it does NOT seem obvious to an entire country Abu - and why? For the Shariah principles in question are shared by all four of the Sunni schools of jurisprudence (Maliki, Hanbali, Hanafi, and Shafi'i), plus the Shia school.

And then he admitted (but not directly of course because he is a muslims after all:

"As to homosexuality and adultery, Islam takes the same stand as tradition Christianity and Judaism. So yes, like practicing Jews and Christians who follow a traditional following of their religions, I support the ban and punishment for these crimes."

Yes, our moderate muslim wants death for gays, lesbians and adulterers. Know of any Christian countries where they stone women to death for adultery? How about ONE western nation that executes gay people? No, me either. In fact, the amputations, executions and torturing of adulterers and homosexuals is the almost exclusive monopoly of Muslims. War On Terror: In the wake of the cartoon jihad and mosque-on-mosque violence in Iraq, most Americans now think Islam has more violent believers than any other faith. Yet many still view it as a "peaceful religion."

Psychologists might call this cognitive dissonance — a state of mind where rational people essentially lie to themselves. But in this case, it's understandable. In our politically correct culture, criticizing any religion, even one that plots our destruction, is still taboo. And no one wants to suggest the terrorists are driven by their holy text.

Which explains a Washington Post-ABC News poll showing that Americans are becoming more aware of the broader threat (58% associate terrorists with Islam), but are still convinced terrorists are radicalizing Islam and not the other way around (54% don't think Islam itself encourages violence).

The new poll, however, still doesn't sit well with the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), a group dedicated to improving public perceptions of Islam. It has denounced increasingly negative views as "Islamophobic" and vowed to redouble its "education" efforts.

Good. What better time for CAIR and other Muslim leaders to step up, cut through the politically correct fog and provide factual answers to the questions that give so many non-Muslims pause?

Generally speaking, those questions focus on whether the Quran does indeed promote violence against non-Muslims, and how many of the terrorists' ideas — about the violent jihad, the self-immolation, the kidnappings, even the beheadings — come right out of the text? But even more specifically:

Is Islam the only religion with a doctrine, theology and legal system that mandates warfare against unbelievers?

Is it true that 26 chapters of the Quran deal with jihad, a fight able-bodied believers are obligated to join (Surah 2:216), and that the text orders Muslims to "instill terror into the hearts of the unbeliever" and to "smite above their necks" (8:12)?

Is the "test" of loyalty to Allah not good acts or faith in general, but martyrdom that results from fighting unbelievers (47:4) — the only assurance of salvation in Islam (4:74; 9:111)?

Are the sins of any Muslim who becomes a martyr forgiven by the very act of being slain while slaying the unbelievers (4:96)?

And is it really true that martyrs are rewarded with virgins, among other carnal delights, in Paradise (38:51, 55:56; 55:76; 56:22)?

Are those unable to do jihad — such as women or the elderly — required to give "asylum and aid" to those who do fight unbelievers in the cause of Allah (8:74)?

Does Islam advocate expansion by force? And is the final command of jihad, as revealed to Muhammad in the Quran, to conquer the world in the name of Islam (9:29)?

Is Islam the only religion that does not teach the Golden Rule (48:29)? Does the Quran instead teach violence and hatred against non-Muslims, specifically Jews and Christians (5:50)?

There are other questions, but these should do for a start. If the answers are "yes," then at least Americans will know there's no such thing as moderate Islam, even as they trust that there are moderate Muslims who do not act out on its violent commands.

Fate conspires to remind us what this war is really about: civilizational confidence. And so history repeats itself: first the farce of the Danish cartoons, and now the tragedy -- a man on trial for his life in post-Taliban Afghanistan because he has committed the crime of converting to Christianity.

The cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad were deeply offensive to Muslims, and so thousands protested around the world in the usual restrained manner: rioting, torching, killing, etc.

The impending execution of Abdul Rahman for embracing Christianity is, of course, offensive to Westerners, and so around the world we reacted equally violently by issuing blood-curdling threats like that made by State Department spokesman Sean McCormack: "Freedom of worship is an important element of any democracy," he said. "And these are issues as Afghan democracy matures that they are going to have to deal with increasingly."

The immediate problem for Rahman is whether he'll get the chance to "mature" along with Afghan democracy. The president, the Canadian prime minister and the Australian prime minister have all made statements of concern about his fate, and it seems clear that Afghanistan's dapper leader Hamid Karzai would like to resolve this issue before his fledgling democracy gets a reputation as just another barbarous Islamist sewer state. There's talk of various artful compromises, such as Rahman being declared unfit to stand trial by reason of insanity on the grounds that (I'm no Islamic jurist so I'm paraphrasing here) anyone who converts from Islam to Christianity must ipso facto be out of his tree.

On the other hand, this "moderate" compromise solution is being rejected by leading theologians. Let this guy Rahman cop an insanity plea and there goes the neighborhood. "We will not allow God to be humiliated. This man must die," says Abdul Raoulf of the nation's principal Muslim body, the Afghan Ulama Council. "Cut off his head! We will call on the people to pull him into pieces so there's nothing left." Needless to say, Imam Raoulf is one of Afghanistan's leading "moderate" clerics.

For what it's worth, I'm with the Afghan Ulama Council in objecting to the insanity defense. It's not enough for Rahman to get off on a technicality. Afghanistan is supposed to be "the good war," the one even the French supported, albeit notionally and mostly retrospectively. Karzai is kept alive by a bodyguard of foreigners. The fragile Afghan state is protected by American, British, Canadian, Australian, Italian, German and other troops, hundreds of whom have died. You cannot ask Americans or Britons to expend blood and treasure to build a society in which a man can be executed for his choice of religion. You cannot tell a serving member of the Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry in Kandahar that he, as a Christian, must sacrifice his life to create a Muslim state in which his faith is a capital offense.

As always, we come back to the words of Osama bin Laden: ''When people see a strong horse and a weak horse, by nature they will like the strong horse.'' That's really the only issue: the Islamists know our side has tanks and planes, but they have will and faith, and they reckon in a long struggle that's the better bet. Most prominent Western leaders sound way too eager to climb into the weak-horse suit and audition to play the rear end. Consider, for example, the words of the Prince of Wales, speaking a few days ago at al-Azhar University in Cairo. This is "the world's oldest university," though what they learn there makes the average Ivy League nuthouse look like a beacon of sanity. Anyway, this is what His Royal Highness had to say to 800 Islamic "scholars":

"The recent ghastly strife and anger over the Danish cartoons shows the danger that comes of our failure to listen and to respect what is precious and sacred to others. In my view, the true mark of a civilized society is the respect it pays to minorities and to strangers."

That's correct. But the reality is our society pays enormous respect to minorities -- President Bush holds a monthlong Ramadan-a-ding-dong at the White House every year; the immediate reaction to the slaughter of 9/11 by the president, the prince, the prime ministers of Britain, Canada and everywhere else was to visit a mosque to demonstrate their great respect for Islam. One party to this dispute is respectful to a fault: after all, to describe the violence perpetrated by Muslims over the Danish cartoons as the "recent ghastly strife" barely passes muster as effete Brit toff understatement.

Unfortunately, what's "precious and sacred" to Islam is its institutional contempt for others. In his book Islam And The West, Bernard Lewis writes, "The primary duty of the Muslim as set forth not once but many times in the Koran is 'to command good and forbid evil.' It is not enough to do good and refrain from evil as a personal choice. It is incumbent upon Muslims also to command and forbid."

Or as the shrewd Canadian columnist David Warren put it: "We take it for granted that it is wrong to kill someone for his religious beliefs. Whereas Islam holds it is wrong not to kill him." In that sense, those blood-curdling imams are right, and Karzai's attempts to finesse the issue are, sharia-wise, wrong.

I can understand why the president and the secretary of state would rather deal with this through back-channels, private assurances from their Afghan counterparts, etc. But the public rhetoric is critical, too. At some point we have to face down a culture in which not only the mob in the street but the highest judges and academics talk like crazies.

Rahman embodies the question at the heart of this struggle: If Islam is a religion one can only convert to not from, then in the long run it is a threat to every free person on the planet. What can we do? Should governments with troops in Afghanistan pass joint emergency legislation conferring their citizenship on this poor man and declaring him, as much as Karzai, under their protection?

In a more culturally confident age, the British in India were faced with the practice of "suttee" -- the tradition of burning widows on the funeral pyres of their husbands. General Sir Charles Napier was impeccably multicultural:

''You say that it is your custom to burn widows. Very well. We also have a custom: When men burn a woman alive, we tie a rope around their necks and we hang them. Build your funeral pyre; beside it, my carpenters will build a gallows.You may follow your custom. And then we will follow ours."

India today is better off without suttee. If we shrink from the logic of that, then in Afghanistan and many places far closer to home the implications are, as the Prince of Wales would say, "ghastly."

KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) -- Senior Muslim clerics are demanding that an Afghan man on trial for converting from Islam to Christianity be executed, warning that if the government caves in to Western pressure and frees him, they will incite people to "pull him into pieces."

In an unusual move, U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice telephoned President Hamid Karzai on Thursday seeking a "favorable resolution" of the case of Abdul Rahman. The 41-year-old former medical aid worker faces the death penalty under Afghanistan's Islamic laws for becoming a Christian.

His trial has fired passions in this conservative Muslim nation and highlighted a conflict of values between Afghanistan and its Western backers.

"Rejecting Islam is insulting God. We will not allow God to be humiliated. This man must die," said cleric Abdul Raoulf, who is considered a moderate and was jailed three times for opposing the Taliban before the hard-line regime was ousted in 2001.

"He is not crazy. He went in front of the media and confessed to being a Christian," said Hamidullah, chief cleric at Haji Yacob Mosque. "The government is scared of the international community. But the people will kill him if he is freed."

Raoulf, who is a member of the country's main Islamic organization, the Afghan Ulama Council, concurred. "The government is playing games. The people will not be fooled."

"Cut off his head!" he exclaimed, sitting in a courtyard outside Herati Mosque. "We will call on the people to pull him into pieces so there's nothing left."

He said the only way for Rahman to survive would be for him to go into exile.

But Said Mirhossain Nasri, the top cleric at Hossainia Mosque, one of the largest Shiite places of worship in Kabul, said Rahman must not be allowed to leave the country.

"If he is allowed to live in the West, then others will claim to be Christian so they can, too," he said. "We must set an example. ... He must be hanged."
The clerics said they were angry with the United States and other countries for pushing for Rahman's freedom.

"We are a small country and we welcome the help the outside world is giving us. But please don't interfere in this issue," Nasri said. "We are Muslims and these are our beliefs. This is much more important to us than all the aid the world has given us."

Afghanistan's constitution is based on Sharia law, which is interpreted by many Muslims to require that any Muslim who rejects Islam be sentenced to death.

Former Spanish prime minister Jose Maria Aznar said Tuesday that Iran's Ayatollah Ali Khamenei told him five years ago that "setting Israel on fire" was the first order of business on the Iranian agenda.

Aznar, in Israel as the guest of the Interdisciplinary Center in Herzliya, related the story to Major General (Res.) Professor Yitzhak Ben-Israel, who later confirmed to Haaretz that the remarks had been made.

Aznar's aides refused to give Haaretz the exact quote, but mentioned an article Aznar has written in the past on his meeting with Khamenei.

"He received me politely," Aznar wrote, "and at the beginning of the meeting he explained to me why Iran must declare war on Israel and the United States until they are completely destroyed. I made only one request of him: that he tell me the time of the planned attack."

Five arrested over London cartoons protest

Five men were arrested today over their alleged role in protests outside the Danish Embassy in London last month against cartoons satirising the Prophet Muhammad.

Four of the five were held on suspicion of incitement to murder and all five are suspected of "using threatening words or written material to stir up racial hatred".

During the demonstrations in Central London on February 3 and 4, protesters held placards threatening a repeat of the September 11 or July 7 terror attacks. Among the slogans were "Massacre those who insult Islam" and "Europe you will pay, your 9/11 will come".

The demonstration attracted widespread political condemnation and among those calling for prosecutions was the Muslim Council of Britain.

The Metropolitan Police said today: "A number of specialist evidence gathering officers were deployed who collected video, audio and stills of those within the crowd. A dedicated investigation team, Operation Laverda, was set up that day.

The non-dialogue

A Zogby poll, out this week in the U.S., shows an unprecedented number of Americans now harbour unflattering views of Arabs, Muslims, and Islam. It is still low, compared to similar polls in Europe, but it approaches or just exceeds 50 per cent in each category. The pollster, James Zogby, who is also president of the Arab-American Institute in Washington, attributes the negative numbers -- much worse than what they were just after the terror attacks of Sept. 2001 -- to “demonization of the Arab world” by American politicians, authors, and media. I am unable to find a similar poll for Canada, but on past experience, Canadians tend to poll somewhere in the middle between Europeans and Americans.

I will not speak for the politicians, who tend more to respond to public perceptions than to shape them, but will admit that by having reported many thousand savage and barbaric acts done around the world, explicitly in the name of Allah, the media may have contributed to unfortunate perceptions of Arabs, Muslims, and Islam.

Yet, as I know from inside, the media both here and in Europe go to extraordinary lengths to suppress just the sort of material that could incite ill-feeling that way. This began the morning of 9/11/01, with the non-coverage of street celebrations in Arab ethnic neighbourhoods of Brooklyn and Detroit. As recently as last month, mainstream media were editing out London cartoon protesters carrying signs reading, “Behead Those Who Insult Islam”, “Europe You Will Pay”, etc.

On the other hand, there is patient, exhaustive coverage of anything that might incite anti-Western hysteria in the Islamic world. For even while the largest media outlets were refusing to show those bland Danish cartoons -- and doing so out of a pretended “respect for Islam” -- they were dredging up additional sordid photos from the Abu Ghraib outrage in 2004, and running those prominently.

I have often noted, that editorial decisions in the Western media could not be more useful to fanatical Islam if we were taking instructions directly from some Afghan cave. Ask yourself, when reading or watching, if the consistent message is not: “Fear Islam, but do not dare to criticize it.”

There is no conspiracy, however. The violent audacity of a generation of Muslim neo-jihadis happens to correspond precisely with the self-loathing of a generation of Western post-hippies. Perhaps never before, in the history of interaction between the “Dar al-Islam” (Muslim-ruled world), and the “Dar al-Harb” (the external world with which it is perpetually “at war”), have aspiring Muslim conquerors met such willing candidates for “dhimmitude”.

The definition of a “dhimmi” is one who pays the “jizyah” tax to his Muslim rulers; who, in return for this protection money, enjoys an ambiguous special status. This is, as Islamist propaganda is eager to propagate, exactly what is going on when, for instance, governments of the West send foreign aid to Muslim regimes, in the (vain) belief that this will exempt them from the next round of terror hits, or rioting. More generally, the equation of Western aid and domestic welfare payments with the “jizyah” is common in Arab media. It expresses contempt for the West, and our “so-called freedoms”.

So much of the failing “dialogue” between East and West comes down to misunderstanding each other’s terms. Take “jihad”, for example -- the duty to “struggle against everything that is against Allah”, which has been cited in each Islamic war of conquest, over the last 14 centuries. Contrary to popular belief, traditional Islam does not teach that Muslims have a duty to convert, enslave, or massacre their non-Muslim neighbours. On the contrary, the various Islamic schools agree they have a brotherly duty to “remove impediments” to conversion to Islam, including any worldly power not expressly subject to the will of Allah. The sorting out, afterwards, of who should be massacred and who not, of individual rights to booty, slaves, the enjoyment of captured women, and so forth, are spelt out by the learned jurisprudes in traditional Shariah; but these are secondary considerations.

Perhaps if Americans realized that such jihadis as Osama bin Laden are trying to do them a favour, by removing such impediments to their conversion as the existence of the government of the United States, they would not harbour such unflattering views. And perhaps, if they heard great cries of revulsion from across the Arab and Muslim world, against the innumerable acts of violence done in Allah’s name, they would realize that Islam is a “religion of peace”.

Clash of whats?

Sometimes I am brought up short by the clarity and courage with which someone else -- with more to lose than I have -- states a truth. I am a Catholic Christian, who often dismisses “secular humanists”. But I’m in awe of people like Canada’s Irshad Manji, the “Muslim refusenik”, who had the courage in her book The Trouble with Islam to directly confront the horrors done in Allah’s name -- in, as she put it, “Pick a country, any Muslim country.”

Another is Wafa Sultan, an Arab woman practising psychology, now living in the States. A self-professed “disbeliever in the supernatural”, she has posted essays on the Internet in Arabic, including research into the fate of women under various Islamic regimes. She has willingly and ably confronted Muslim fanatics on Arab TV, most recently on Feb. 21st, when she debated Dr Ibrahim Al-Khouli on Al-Jazeera. A transcript and video clips with English subtitles were made available this week by the Middle East Media Research Institute (“Memri”) -- an indispensable institution, based in Israel, that distributes hard information and accurate translations of documents from the Arab world. (It is useless to condemn it as “Zionist” -- everything Memri publishes is sourced and checkable.)

With great bravery, Dr Sultan confronts the “tu quoque” (“you too”) arguments of the apologists for Islamic terror -- refusing to let them change the subject from what they have done, said, and approved, to misty rhetoric against Zionists, Yankees, Imperialists, Crusaders. Boldly on Al-Jazeera, last week, she said what our Western politicians, media flaks, and academic celebrities won’t say, from cowardice in its many forms. Excerpt:

“The clash we are witnessing around the world is not a clash of religions, or a clash of civilizations. ... It is a clash between civilization and backwardness, between the civilized and the primitive, between barbarity and rationality. It is a clash between freedom and oppression, between democracy and dictatorship. It is a clash between human rights, on the one hand, and the violation of these rights, on the other. It is a clash between those who treat women like beasts, and those who treat them like human beings. What we see today is not a clash of civilizations. Civilizations do not clash, but compete.”

The sparkling TV host interrupts to ask if Dr Sultan insinuates the clash is, “between the culture of the West, and the backwardness and ignorance of the Muslims”. Dr Sultan replies, “Yes, that is what I mean.”

The host reminds her that this phrase, “clash of civilizations”, came from Samuel Huntington, not Osama bin Laden. Dr Sultan reminds him that Islamic books and curricula, going back to the Koran, are full of calls for “fighting the infidels”.

When her opponent, Dr Khouli, claims he never offends people, Dr Sultan reminds that among other things he calls Westerners “al-Dhimma” (i.e. the Muslims’ natural slaves), that he routinely compares them to apes and pigs, that he calls Christians “those who incur Allah's wrath”, and so forth.

He asks if she is a heretic. Dr Sultan says, he can call her what he likes. He continues, “If you are a heretic, there is no point in rebuking you, since you have blasphemed against Islam, the Prophet, and the Koran!” She replies, “These are personal matters that do not concern you. ... Brother, you can believe in stones, as long as you don't throw them at me.”

And after the usual banter about Zionism, she notes that since the Holocaust, the Jews have made the world respect them by their work and knowledge, not their crying and yelling. “We have not seen a single Jew blow himself up in a German restaurant. We have not seen a single Jew destroy a church.” Likewise, though professing Muslims turned ancient Buddha statues into rubble, “We have not seen a single Buddhist burn down a mosque, kill a Muslim, or torch an embassy.”

Since the 9/11 attacks on New York and Washington, many thousand other barbaric acts have been reported, around the world, each one performed explicitly in the name of Allah. This is fact, not prejudice, and our refusal to make Islam an issue plays directly into the fanatics’ hands.

It is not our business to “define Islam”, as so many Muslims aver. It is the Muslims’ duty to define it, in such a way that we will not mistake it for a sword held to our own throats. For when it is presented as a sword, it becomes our business.

The thought of an old man becoming aroused by a child is one of the most disturbing images in western culture. Yet in islam, their "Holy Prophet" married Aisha when she was 6-years-old and consummated his marriage with her when she was 9. He was then, 54 years old.

When it is pointed out that Muhammad had sex with a 9 year old child, Muslims brush it off and claim all sorts of excuses to justify this shameful act. This is the nature of blind faith and cognitive dissonance. Maybe by visualizing it, some of them will come to their senses and realize how evil this fiend they call a "prophet" truly was.

Needing to wake up, West just closes its eyes

In five years' time, how many Jews will be living in France? Two years ago, a 23-year-old Paris disc jockey called Sebastien Selam was heading off to work from his parents' apartment when he was jumped in the parking garage by his Muslim neighbor Adel. Selam's throat was slit twice, to the point of near-decapitation; his face was ripped off with a fork; and his eyes were gouged out. Adel climbed the stairs of the apartment house dripping blood and yelling, "I have killed my Jew. I will go to heaven."

Is that an gripping story? You'd think so. Particularly when, in the same city, on the same night, a Jewish woman was brutally murdered in the presence of her daughter by another Muslim. You've got the making of a mini-trend there, and the media love trends.

Yet no major French newspaper carried the story.

This month, there was another murder. Ilan Halimi, also 23, also Jewish, was found by a railway track outside Paris with burns and knife wounds all over his body. He died en route to the hospital, having been held prisoner, hooded and naked, and brutally tortured for almost three weeks by a gang that had demanded half a million dollars from his family. Can you take a wild guess at the particular identity of the gang? During the ransom phone calls, his uncle reported that they were made to listen to Ilan's screams as he was being burned while his torturers read out verses from the Quran.

This time around, the French media did carry the story, yet every public official insisted there was no anti-Jewish element. Just one of those things. Coulda happened to anyone. And, if the gang did seem inordinately fixated on, ah, Jews, it was just because, as one police detective put it, ''Jews equal money.'' In London, the Observer couldn't even bring itself to pursue that particular angle. Its report of the murder managed to avoid any mention of the unfortunate Halimi's, um, Jewishness. Another British paper, the Independent, did dwell on the particular, er, identity groups involved in the incident but only in the context of a protest march by Parisian Jews marred by ''radical young Jewish men'' who'd attacked an ''Arab-run grocery.''

At one level, those spokesmonsieurs are right: It could happen to anyone. Even in the most civilized societies, there are depraved monsters who do terrible things. When they do, they rip apart entire families, like the Halimis and Selams. But what inflicts the real lasting damage on society as a whole is the silence and evasions of the state and the media and the broader culture.

A lot of folks are, to put it at its mildest, indifferent to Jews. In 2003, a survey by the European Commission found that 59 percent of Europeans regard Israel as the "greatest menace to world peace." Only 59 percent? What the hell's wrong with the rest of 'em? Well, don't worry: In Germany, it was 65 percent; Austria, 69 percent; the Netherlands, 74 percent. Since then, Iran has sportingly offered to solve the problem of the Israeli threat to world peace by wiping the Zionist Entity off the face of the map. But what a tragedy that those peace-loving Iranians have been provoked into launching nuclear armageddon by those pushy Jews. As Paul Oestreicher, Anglican chaplain of the University of Sussex, wrote in the Guardian the other day, "I cannot listen calmly when an Iranian president talks of wiping out Israel. Jewish fears go deep. They are not irrational. But I cannot listen calmly either when a great many citizens of Israel think and speak of Palestinians in the way a great many Germans thought and spoke about Jews when I was one of them and had to flee."

It's not surprising when you're as heavily invested as the European establishment is in an absurd equivalence between a nuclear madman who thinks he's the warm-up act for the Twelfth Imam and the fellows building the Israeli security fence that you lose all sense of proportion when it comes to your own backyard, too. "Radical young Jewish men" are no threat to "Arab-run groceries." But radical young Muslim men are changing the realities of daily life for Jews and gays and women in Paris, Brussels, Amsterdam, Copenhagen, Oslo and beyond. If you don't care for the Yids, big deal; look out for yourself. The Jews are playing their traditional role of the canaries in history's coal mine.

Something very remarkable is happening around the globe and, if you want the short version, a Muslim demonstrator in Toronto the other day put it very well:

''We won't stop the protests until the world obeys Islamic law.''

Stated that baldly it sounds ridiculous. But, simply as a matter of fact, every year more and more of the world lives under Islamic law: Pakistan adopted Islamic law in 1977, Iran in 1979, Sudan in 1984. Four decades ago, Nigeria lived under English common law; now, half of it's in the grip of sharia, and the other half's feeling the squeeze, as the death toll from the cartoon jihad indicates. But just as telling is how swiftly the developed world has internalized an essentially Islamic perspective. In their pitiful coverage of the low-level intifada that's been going on in France for five years, the European press has been barely any less loopy than the Middle Eastern media.

What, in the end, are all these supposedly unconnected matters from Danish cartoons to the murder of a Dutch filmmaker to gender-segregated swimming sessions in French municipal pools about? Answer: sovereignty. Islam claims universal jurisdiction and always has. The only difference is that they're now acting upon it. The signature act of the new age was the seizure of the U.S. Embassy in Tehran: Even hostile states generally respect the convention that diplomatic missions are the sovereign territory of their respective countries. Tehran then advanced to claiming jurisdiction over the citizens of sovereign states and killing them -- as it did to Salman Rushdie's translators and publishers. Now in the cartoon jihad and other episodes, the restraints of Islamic law are being extended piecemeal to the advanced world, by intimidation and violence but also by the usual cooing promotion of a spurious multicultural "respect" by Bill Clinton, the United Church of Canada, European foreign ministers, etc.

The I'd-like-to-teach-the-world-to-sing-in-perfect-harmonee crowd have always spoken favorably of one-worldism. From the op-ed pages of Jutland newspapers to les banlieues of Paris, the Pan-Islamists are getting on with it.

Muslim apostates cast out and at risk from faith and family

While Christians who turn to Islam are feted, the 200,000 Muslims who turn away are faced with abuse, violence and even murder

THE first brick was thrown through the sitting room window at one in the morning, waking Nissar Hussein, his wife and five children with a terrifying start. The second brick went through his car window.
It was a shock, but hardly a surprise. The week before, another brick had been thrown through the window as the family were preparing for bed in their Bradford home. The victim of a three-year campaign of religious hatred, Mr Hussein’s car has also been rammed and torched, and the steps to his home have been strewn with rubbish.

He and his family have been regularly jostled, abused, attacked, shouted at to move out of the area, and given death threats in the street. His wife has been held hostage inside their home for two hours by a mob. His car, walls and windows have been daubed in graffiti: “Christian bastard”.

The problem isn’t so much what Mr Hussein, whose parents came from Pakistan, believes, but what he doesn’t believe. Born into Islam, he converted eight years ago to Christianity, and his wife, also from Pakistan, followed suit.

While those who convert to Islam, such as Cat Stevens, Jemima Khan, and the sons of the Frank Dobson, the former Health Secretary, and Lord Birt, the former BBC Director-General, can publicly celebrate their new religion, those whose faith goes in the other direction face persecution. Mr Hussein, a 39-year-old hospital nurse in Bradford, is one of a growing number of former Muslims in Britain who face not just being shunned by family and community, but attacked, kidnapped, and in some cases killed. There is even a secret underground network to support and protect those who leave Islam. One estimate suggests that as many as 15 per cent of Muslims in Western societies have lost their faith, which would mean that in Britain there are about 200,000 apostates.

For police, religious authorities and politicians, it is an issue so sensitive that they are accused by victims of refusing to respond to appeals for help. It is a problem that, with the crisis of identity in Islam since September 11, seems to be getting worse as Muslims feel more threatened.

Muslims who lose their faith face execution or imprisonment, in line with traditional Muslim teaching, in many Islamic countries, including Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, Egypt and Yemen. In the Netherlands, the former Muslim MP Ayan Hirsi Ali had to go into hiding after renouncing her faith on television.

The Prince of Wales recently held a meeting with religious leaders to consider ways to stop former Muslims being persecuted in other countries, but Britain itself is also affected.

Mr Hussein told The Times: “It’s been absolutely appalling. This is England — where I was born and raised. You would never imagine Christians would suffer in such a way.”

The police have not charged anyone, but told him to leave the area. “We feel completely isolated, utterly helpless. I have been utterly failed by the authorities. If it was white racists attacking an Asian guy, there would be an absolute outcry,” he said. “They are trying to ethnically cleanse me out of my home. I feel I have to make a stand as an Asian Christian.”

Yasmin, who was raised in the North of England, has been forced out of her town once, and is now trying to resist being chased out again. Brought up in a Muslim family, she converted after having a vision of Jesus when she gave birth to her youngest son, and was baptised in her thirties.. “My family completely disowned me. They thought I had committed the biggest sin — I was born a Muslim, and so I must die a Muslim. When my husband found out, he totally disowned my sons. One friend tried to strangle me when I told him I was converting,” she said.

“We had bricks though our windows, I was spat at in the street because they thought I was dishonouring Islam. We had to call the police so many times. I had to go to court to get an injunction against my husband because he was inciting others to attack me.”

She fled to another part of Britain, but the attacks soon started again as locals found out about her. “I wasn’t going to leave again,” she said, adding that it was the double standards of her attackers that made her most angry. “They are such hypocrites — they want us to be tolerant of everything they want, but they are intolerant of everything about us.”

With other converts, Yasmin has helped to set up a series of support groups across England, who have adopted a method of operating normally associated with dissidents in dictatorships, not democracies. They not only have to meet in secret, but cannot advertise their services, and have to vet those that approach them for infiltrators.

“There are so many who convert from Islam to Christianity. We have 70 people on our list who we support, and the list is growing. We don’t want others to suffer like we have,” she said.

How Muslims are caricaturing ourselves

At the World Economic Forum in January, I observed something revealing. In a session about the U.S. religious right, a cartoonist satirized one of America’s most influential Christian ministers, Pat Robertson. In the audience, chuckling with the rest of us, was a prominent British Muslim. But his smile disappeared the moment we were shown a cartoon that ridiculed Muslim clerics.

Since then, a fierce fight has erupted between the European Union and the Muslim world over caricatures of the Prophet Muhammad. Months ago, the Danish newspaper, Jyllands-Posten, published cartoons that showed Islam’s messenger wearing, among other things, a turban-turned-time bomb. Although the paper has apologized, the controversy has metastasized: A Norwegian magazine and French paper recently re-printed the drawings, as have other broadcasters and publications while covering this story.

In response, Muslim rioters torched Scandinavian missions in Syria, Lebanon and Iran. Bomb threats have hit the offices of more than one European newspaper. Various Arab countries have recalled their ambassadors from Copenhagen. Chechnya has banned Danish humanitarian workers from its borders. Boycotts of Danish products have swept across supermarkets in the Arab world, and Muslims as far away as India and Indonesia are pouring into the streets to burn Danish flags – which feature the cross, among the holiest of Christian symbols. Early in the furor, thousands of Palestinians shouted “Death to Denmark!” Copenhagen evacuated Danish citizens from the Gaza Strip and sternly warned nationals in the West Bank to get out as well. Muslims themselves are getting pummeled in the riots: four died in Afghanistan alone on February 7. More will perish now that some Scandinavian NGOs are suspending tsunami relief efforts thanks to security problems.

To judge the root problem here, let us first determine how the cartoons became an international incident. Last September, these comics ran beside a story about the hurdles encountered by a Danish author in finding someone – anyone – to illustrate his children’s book about the Prophet. Every artist he approached declined the job out of fear of having to contend with Islamist extremists.

As if on cue, two of the people who produced these drawings received death threats in October 2005. We Muslims love to lecture about the need to assess touchy matters -- such as offensive Koranic verses -- “in context.” The context in which the Muhammad cartoons first appeared suggests that frustration, not malice, was the motive

Regardless, the cartoons met with howls of protest from Danish Muslims. Ten ambassadors of Muslim countries issued a letter demanding that Denmark’s prime minister punish Jyllands-Posten. Apparently, it didn’t occur to them that in a free society, media are generally independent of government. The paper continued to operate. Thus, the controversy continued to simmer.

Then a group of Danish imams took the cartoons to the Middle East. Complaining of press bias, they distributed the drawings – and fabricated a few of their own to ensure that unrest would be sown. One of the extra sketches, for example, portrays the Prophet with a pig’s snout.

All hell soon broke loose. From missionary manipulation, the imams achieved in the Arab world what they couldn’t accomplish from exercising their democratic freedoms in Denmark.

But it’s not just the Danish imams who choreographed this passion play. Arab elites also got in on the game. Why wouldn’t they? Such controversies provide convenient opportunities to channel anger away from daily crimes. No wonder President Lahoud of Lebanon insisted that his country “cannot accept any insult to any religion.” That’s rich. Since the late 1970s, the Lebanese government has licensed Hezbollah-run satellite television station al-Manar, among the most viciously anti-Semitic broadcasters on earth.

Similarly, the Justice Minister of the United Arab Emirates has said that the Danish cartoons represent “cultural terrorism, not freedom of expression.” This from a country that promotes its capital as the “Las Vegas of the Gulf,” yet blocks my website – muslim-refusenik.com -- for being “inconsistent with the moral values” of the UAE. Presumably, my site should be an online casino.

Muslims have little integrity demanding respect for our faith if don’t show it for others. When have we demonstrated against Saudi Arabia’s policy to prevent Christians and Jews from stepping on the soil of Mecca? They may come for rare business trips, but nothing more. As long as Rome welcomes non-Christians and Jerusalem embraces non-Jews, we Muslims have more to protest than these cartoons.

None of this is to dismiss the need to take my religion seriously. Hell, Muslims even take seriously the need to be serious: Islam has a teaching against “excessive laughter.” I’m not joking. But does this mean that we should cry “blasphemy” over less-than-flattering depictions of the Prophet Muhammad? God, no.

For one thing, the Koran itself points out that there will always be non-believers, and that it's for Allah, not Muslims, to deal with them. More than that, the Koran says there is "no compulsion in religion." Which suggests that nobody should be forced to treat Islamic norms as sacred.

Fine, many Muslims will retort, but we’re talking about the Prophet Muhammad – Allah’s final and therefore perfect messenger. However, Islamic tradition holds that the Prophet was a human being who made mistakes. It’s precisely because he wasn’t perfect that we know about the so-called Satanic Verses; a collection of passages that the Prophet reportedly included in the Koran. Only later did he realize that those verses glorified heathen idols rather than God. According to Islamic legend, he retracted the idolatrous passages, blaming them on a trick played by Satan.

When Muslims put the Prophet on a pedestal, we’re engaging in idolatry of our own. The point of monotheism is to worship one God, not one of God's emissaries. Which is why humility requires people of faith to mock themselves -- and each other -- every once in a while.

Here’s my attempt: A priest, a rabbi, and a mullah meet at a conference about religion, and afterwards are sitting around discussing their different faiths. The conversation turns to the topic of taboos.

The priest says to the rabbi and the mullah, "You guys can't tell me that you've never eaten pork."

"Never!" intones the rabbi.

"Absolutely not!" insists the mullah.

But the priest is skeptical. "Come on, not even once? Maybe in a fit of rebellion when you were younger?"

"Okay," confesses the rabbi. "When I was young, I once nibbled on bacon."

"I admit it," the mullah laughs (not excessively). "In a fit of youthful arrogance, I sampled a pork chop."

Then the conversation turns to the priest's religious observances. "You can't tell me you've never had sex," says the mullah.

"Of course not!" the priest protests. "I took a vow of chastity."

The mullah and the rabbi roll their eyes. "Maybe after a few drinks?" the rabbi teases.

"Perhaps, in a moment of temptation, your faith waned?" the mullah wonders.

"Okay," the priest confesses. "Once, when I was drunk in seminary school, I had sexual relations with a woman."

"Beats pork, huh?" say the rabbi and the mullah.

Clearly, I’m as impure a feminist as I am a Muslim. The difference is, offended feminists won’t threaten to kill me. The same can’t be said for many of my fellow Muslims.

Four out of 10 British Muslims want sharia law introduced into parts of the country, a survey reveals today.

The ICM opinion poll also indicates that a fifth have sympathy with the "feelings and motives" of the suicide bombers who attacked London last July 7, killing 52 people, although 99 per cent thought the bombers were wrong to carry out the atrocity.

Overall, the findings depict a Muslim community becoming more radical and feeling more alienated from mainstream society, even though 91 per cent still say they feel loyal to Britain.

The most startling finding is the high level of support for applying sharia law in "predom-inantly Muslim" areas of Britain.

Islamic law is used in large parts of the Middle East, including Iran and Saudi Arabia, and is enforced by religious police. Special courts can hand down harsh punishments which can include stoning and amputation.

Forty per cent of the British Muslims surveyed said they backed introducing sharia in parts of Britain, while 41 per cent opposed it. Twenty per cent felt sympathy with the July 7 bombers' motives, and 75 per cent did not. One per cent felt the attacks were "right".

Half of the 500 people surveyed said relations between white Britons and Muslims were getting worse. Only just over half thought the conviction of the cleric Abu Hamza for incitement to murder and race hatred was fair.

A so-called religious figure is offerring money to assasinate a cartoonist. This is Islam.

(CBS/AP) A Pakistani cleric offered a 1.5 million rupee reward and a car for anyone who kills the Danish cartoonist who drew Prophet Muhammad, while another Islamist leader was put under house detention, amid fears of more deadly demonstrations Friday, officials said.

Protests sparked by the Muhammad caricature continue in numerous cities around the globe. In Pakistan, thousands of security forces have been deployed to prevent unrest.

Police have arrested 125 protesters for violating a ban on rallies in eastern Pakistan and arrested 30 others after firing tear gas to disperse a protest in the southern city of Karachi.

Mohammed Yousaf Qureshi, prayer leader at the historic Mohabat Khan mosque in the northwestern city of Peshawar, announced at the mosque and the Jamia Ashrafia religious school that he leads would give a 1.5 million rupee reward and a car for killing the cartoonist of the Prophet pictures that appeared first in a Danish newspaper in September.

It's always astonishing to find out the depths of depravity that so called "moderate" muslims find themselves. I was having a conversation with one of these folks about the Danish cartoons on a muslim blog (http://www.jamalsadik.com/home/2006/02/04/muhammad-cartoons/)when the blog owner pronouned this:

Flanstein, the notion that Muslims were to blame for the Sept. 11 attacks is to me simply that: a notion. All evidence linking “al-Qaeda” to the attacks is shaky at best. A Qura’an left at a strip club? A suicide note? Yeah that’s totally logical…you’re about to take your own life in the name of God, and the last thing you do is go to a strip club, with a Qura’an no less. Not to say that Osama isn’t a known terrorist; he has taken full responsibility for Sudan embassy bombings among other attacks. Incidentally though, Osama has exclusively denied his involvement inthe 9/11 attacks on more than one occasion:

I’m sure you didn’t hear about that, did you Flanny? And if you did, it could be totally disregarded, because “video tapes” suggested otherwise. Because we all video tape random conversations and then leave them in abandoned village houses, right? But at least we have the alternative of believing the stories fed to us by the Bush Administration…the same administration that lied to the American public and Congress to initiate a pointless war in Iraq; the same administration that openly spies on its own citizens. What troubled times we live in.

I remind myself that this dullard is actually a "moderate" muslim. One can only imagine how twisted the jihadis are...

Six days after September 11, President Bush went to the Islamic Center in Washington, D.C., to deliver a message to a shocked, grieving nation: “These acts of violence against innocents violate the fundamental tenets of the Islamic faith.” “Islam,” the President continued, “is peace.”

Five years later, after bombings in Bali, Turkey, Madrid, London, Israel, Iraq, and Amman (to name a few), the savage killing of Theo van Gogh, the murdering of children in Beslan, the burning of thousands of cars in Paris, and now a global conflagration over a few lame cartoons published in a Danish newspaper months ago, it is more than understandable the world is starting to question whether President Bush’s proclamation was more wishful thinking than fact.

The current crisis over the Mohammed cartoons helps illuminate another threat that is every bit as dangerous as terrorism: the cultural assertiveness of Islamic fundamentalism. The people we see rioting in London and around the world are not all willing to strap bombs to themselves in the name of Allah. But they’re clearly demonstrating a sympathy for the fundamentalist cause – whether manipulated or not- and a willingness to use threats of violence as a form of cultural intimidation. That is an ominous sign.

We keep hearing about how the vast majority of the 1.4 billion Muslims in the world practice the religion of Islam peacefully. That is certainly true, though not terribly important. What is important is where the trend is heading between the majority and the minority. This is a process without stasis; every day each group within Islam is either gaining or losing ground. One group is exerting more influence and control and the other is exerting less. Few would dispute that over the last five years, with few exceptions, the fundamentalist minority within Islam has been the group making strides.

The problem, of course, is that while the West is the target of Islamic fundamentalism and terror, the West is not in control of the outcome of the battle. Ultimately, that responsibility rests in the hands of moderate Muslims. No amount of appeasement, or bombs, or isolation, or troop withdrawals by the West is going to change the core dynamic of the struggle between those who want a modern, tolerant version of Islam and those who want to impose a 9th century version of sharia.

Every religion has its fundamentalists – Christianity no less than Islam. The difference between the two (as well as other major religions) is that over time and through much struggle Christians developed an external, peaceful tolerance toward those who would offend or insult their faith and, just as importantly, an internal discipline and intolerance toward members who would commit heinous acts of violence against innocent people in the name of their Lord. Islam, for the most part, still has that equation backwards.

And so we wait and continue to wonder: where are the moderate Muslims today? Where have they been for the last five years? We saw protests against terrorism in the streets of Amman last year – but only after the horrendous suicide bombing of a wedding shocked the consciousness of Jordanians. Aside from that, we’ve seen nothing demonstrating the magnitude and seriousness one would expect from hundreds of millions of people outraged over the fact their religion’s good name has been hijacked and distorted by a small group of fundamentalists.

There are only two conclusions to be drawn: moderate, peace-loving Muslims are either unable to win the battle against fundamentalism, or they are unwilling to win it. We are fast approaching the day when the continued lack of demonstrable effort on the part of moderate Muslims serves to disabuse the West of the notion that Islam “is peace.” That would be a terrible thing, and it would make the struggle of moderate Muslims that much more difficult in the end. The time for action is now.

Radical Muslim cleric Abu Hamza al-Masri was sentenced to seven years in prison on Tuesday after being found guilty of fomenting racial hatred and inciting followers in Britain to kill non-Muslims.

The former imam at London's Finsbury Park mosque was also found guilty of possessing a terrorist document (the Encyclopedia of the Afghani Jihad) and threatening or abusive recordings.

A jury found him guilty of seven of nine charges of soliciting murder, and two charges of stirring racial hatred. He had faced 15 charges in all.

He was then sentenced to seven years for the most serious charge he faced, of soliciting murder, and will serve concurrent sentences on the other charges. The jury had the option of sentencing Al-Masri to life.

Egyptian-born al-Masri, who has only one eye and a hook replacing one of his hands, is perhaps Britain's best-known Islamist speaker.

His mosque has been linked to a number of terrorist suspects, including Zacarias Moussaoui, the only person charged criminally by the United States in connection with the Sept. 11 attacks, and Richard Reid, who was arrested after trying to detonate a bomb hidden in his shoe while on a trans-Atlantic flight.

Al-Masri's trial began Jan. 11. Authorities in Washington have been closely watching the proceedings because they have charged him with trying to set up a terrorist training camp in Oregon, conspiring to take hostages in Yemen and facilitating terror training in Afghanistan.

British law dictates that the domestic charges had to take precedence, but now that he has been convicted, it's possible al-Masri could be sent to the United States for a trial.

Al-Masri's lawyers have fought against extradition, arguing he wouldn't receive a fair hearing in the U.S. where officials have publicly called him a terrorist supporter.

They are also concerned a U.S. court could mete out the death penalty, which is banned in Britain.

There's a verse in the Koran that states the following:

From a young age, many (perhaps most) Muslims are indoctrinated in a personality cult surrounding the bandit-murderer. It's not surprising therefore, given such a miseducation, that they react so fiercely to any criticism of him.

Indeed, it is quite an irony that whilst Islam condemns idolatry, it makes an idol of Mohammed, of the Koran, of the Kaaba, of Mecca, etc.. etc...

Finally, we should not forget that the first victims of Islam are the Muslims themselves. Instead of blaming the victim, let's aim at eradicating the vice.

Introduction
We hear from prominent Western leaders that Islam is peaceful and that those who commit violence in its name are heterodox fanatics.

Part 1: ‘There is no God but Allah and Muhammad is his Prophet’
Our interviewees affirm their belief that Islamic violence is entirely orthodox behavior for Muslims and stems directly from the teachings and example of the Prophet Muhammad and the commands of the Koran. We learn that the example of Muhammad is one of a violent warlord who killed numerous people. The Koran – the verbatim words of Allah – prescribes violence against non-Muslims and Muhammad is the perfect example of the Koran in action.

Part 2: The Struggle
We learn that jihad, while literally meaning 'struggle', in fact denotes war fought against non-Muslims in order to bring the rule of Islamic law to the world. Violent death in jihad is, according to the Koran, the only assurance of salvation. One of our interviewees tells of his personal involvement in terrorism and of his conversion to Christianity.

Part 3: Expansion
Following the death of Muhammad, his 'rightly-guided' successors carried his wars to three continents, fighting, enslaving, and massacring countless Christians, Jews, and Zoroastrians. Islam did not spread through evangelism or through its natural appeal, but through aggressive wars of conquest. The Crusades were largely a belated response on the part of Christian Europe to rescue Christians in the Holy Land suffering under Muslim oppression. The Muslim world today, while no longer the unified empire of the Caliphs, is exceptional for being responsible for the vast majority of conflicts around the world and for almost all of international terrorism.

Part 4: ‘War is Deceit’
A great problem with Western efforts to understand Islam is due to the Islamic principle of 'religious deception', which enjoins Muslims to deceive non-Muslims in order to advance the cause of Islam. Muslim groups today in the West employ deception and omission to give the impression that 'Islam is a religion of peace', an utter fiction.

Part 5: More than a Religion
The most important characteristic of Islam not understood by the West is that it is more a system of government than a personal religion. Unlike Christianity, Islam has never recognized a distinction between the religious and the secular/political. Islamic law governs every aspect of religious, political, and personal action, which amounts to a form of totalitarianism that is divinely enjoined to dominate the world, analogous in many ways to Communism.

Part 6: The House of War
Islamic theology divides the world into two spheres locked in perpetual combat, dar al-Islam (House of Islam - where Islamic law predominates), and dar al-harb (House of War - the rest of the world). It is incumbent on dar al-Islam to fight and conquer dar al-harb and permanently assimilate it. Muslims in Western nations are called to subvert the secular regimes in which they now live in accordance with Allah's command. Due to political correctness and general government and media irresponsibility, the danger posed by observant Muslims in the West remains largely unappreciated.

ABU HAMZA AL-MASRI used his position as imam of the Finsbury Park mosque to preach virulently anti-Semitic sermons, the Old Bailey was told yesterday.
Videos of the radical cleric delivering a talk after Friday prayers at the mosque were shown to the jury at his trial on charges of inciting murder and racial hatred.

Abu Hamza, 47, denies 13 such charges and two counts of possessing a terrorist manual and planning to distribute offensive recordings.

The preacher was shown on screen addressing the congregation at the mosque in October 2000. He punched the air as he described the Nazi Holocaust as a punishment from God.

In a sermon in Arabic, a translation of which was read to the court by David Perry, for the prosecution, Abu Hamza said that God had decreed that the Jewish people should face further torture.

He said: “Every time they lit the fire for war God has put it out. And this is the imminent result and this is a universal result too. Hitler looked at their dealings and their treachery. They wanted to deceive him in his war. Some were dealing with the Allies against him.

“So he killed them and punished them and this is a sunna (Islamic rule). And they will be inflicted with that again when the stones and the Sharia start talking to the Muslim — you the worshipper of God . . . This is a Jew dealing in usury, so come and kill him.

“This shows that the Jews will be destroyed, the State will be destroyed and some of the Jews will be running around hiding behind the trees and the stones and then they get cursed by the earth until there is not one of them left.”

In a separate video, Abu Hamza told a group of people that shoplifting and theft by Muslims from non-believers was permitted. Students were not required to repay loans and identity fraud by Muslim refugees was allowed, according to his interpretation of Islam.

In other passages from his lectures, the court heard Abu Hamza telling his audience that they were allowed to kill non-Muslims.

He said: “Killing a kuffar (unbeliever) who is fighting you is OK. Killing a kuffar for any reason, you can say it is OK even if there is no reason for it.”

The cleric reserved particular ire for the owners of off-licences and authorities that granted licences for the sale of alcohol.

“Don’t go to the man in the wine shop and tell him, ‘Please why are you selling the wine, come to the mosque’. Make sure the person who gave him the licence for that wine shop does not exist any more on the earth. Finish him up. Give him dawa (the spread of Islam), if he doesn’t respect dawa, kill him.”

The trial continues.

Sacks of islamic crap demonstrate their support for their co-religionist yesterday in London

Abu Hamza, the Muslim preacher, had a 10-volume terrorism manual at his home which was dedicated to Osama bin Laden and featured a list of targets including Big Ben, skyscrapers, airports and football stadiums, a court heard yesterday.

The Encyclopaedia of Afghani Jihad was written in Arabic between 1989 and 1999 with the help of Mujahadeen fighters in Afghanistan.

It featured sections on explosives, sabotage and assassination, the Old Bailey was told.

The first volume talks of a holy war against English, French and Communist "imperialists" who protect Israel.

It also refers to an "external pressure unit" which "belongs to the execution unit which operates abroad" and should be sent to a country "at least 10 years" before the Jihad starts.

Among the high-profile targets suggested are the "Statue of Liberty, Eiffel Tower and Big Ben clock".

Targets where there would be bigger loss of life are suggested as "skyscrapers, ports, airports, nuclear plants, football stadiums and large congregations at Christmas".

David Perry, prosecuting, said it was a "manual, a blueprint for terrorism". "It includes all anyone ever needs to know if they want to make a home-made bomb or explosive."

Hamza, 47, who was born in Egypt and has lived in Britain for several years as a British citizen, is accused of nine counts of soliciting to murder, four counts of using threatening, abusive or insulting behaviour and two counts of possessing abusive recordings with a view to distribution and possession of a document useful to preparing terrorism.

When police raided his home in west London in May 2004 they found more than 2,700 audio tapes and 570 video tapes, some of them labelled "Jihad", meaning holy war, the court was told.

Hamza was the preacher at Finsbury Park mosque before it closed in 2003. The terrorism encyclopedia was found on the top shelf in a ground- floor room of his house.

The jury saw pictures of Hamza's home in Shepherd's Bush. It contained boxes piled with blank tapes and others labelled "master", suggesting they were being prepared for distribution.

The tapes included sections on the evils of adultery, drink and e-number additives in food.

In one speech, delivered to a meeting in Whitechapel, east London, in 1997 or 1998 Hamza said the role of women should be to encourage their husbands to train children as young as 10 so they could become mujahadeen (holy warriors).

In a tape aimed at young people he said: "When you meet Allah you will be asked who was killed at your hands?"

Britain and Western nations were "100 per cent anti-Islam", he said in another tape, calling on his followers to spread Islam "by the sword" and adding: "European leaders only respect those that are strong."

He said: "Killing the kafir for any reason is OK, killing the kafir for no reason is OK," and he specifically singled out those that granted licences for "wine shops".
Hamza added: "We like blood and are addicted to it. When they say they love Allah they must ask themselves how much fafir blood they have spilt for Allah."

Describing non-believers as "germs and viruses" in another tape he added: "There is no drop of liquid loved by Allah more than blood of Serbs, Jews or any other enemy of Allah."

In a speech about a terrorist attack in Egypt, which killed 58 people in November 1997, Hamza told his audience the tourist industry should be Islamised and added: "While children should not be killed directly, their killing is permissible if they are in the target area."

Asked if suicide bombing was permissible he said: "People call it suicide to put people off. It is not called suicide, it is called martyrdom."

The court heard Hamza was calling for a worldwide "caliphate" of Muslim Shariah law and for a Muslim ruler in the White House.

Hamza claimed Jews were "blasphemous, traitors and dirty" and added that "Hitler was sent to torture and humiliate Jews", the court was told.

Report: Hajj stampede kills dozens

MECCA, Saudi Arabia (AP) -- Muslim pilgrims stampeded on the last day of a symbolic stoning ritual at the Hajj on Thursday, and the Interior Ministry said an unknown number of people were killed.

The Arab television news station Al-Arabiya reported dozens of pilgrims died.

The stampede broke out as tens of thousands of pilgrims filed past al-Jamarat, a series of three pillars representing the devil that the faithful pelt with stones to purge themselves of sin.

The ritual has seen deadly stampedes in the past, including one in 1990 that killed 1,426 people and another in February 2004 that killed 244.

Maj. Gen. Mansour al-Turki, a ministry spokesman, said the stampede happened after some pieces of luggage dropped from moving buses. The pilgrims apparently tripped over them as they were rushing to the pillars, he said.

Al-Turki said there were deaths but could not immediately give an exact number.

Recently, a so-called "moderate" muslim challenged me on his blog to "tell all of us why you think there is so much Islamic militancy in the world"

Intially pleased that he understands and agrees that islamic militancy is a problem, I opined that the koran and hadiths, full of jew/infidel hatred and brimming with ecouragement for young jihadis was the prime reason for terrorism in this world. Islam teraches the ideology of jihad, including violence against and the subjugation of non-Muslims. Suffice to say that Ipouya was not in agreement with my arguments - calling me a bigot, racist and islamophobe. Why?

Because I choose to repeat the things muslims say. For example I read today that according to the religious edict issued by Rashad Hassan Khalil, a former dean of Al-Azhar University's faculty of Sharia (or Islamic law), "being completely naked during the act of coitus annuls the marriage"....

Repeating this tidbit is apparently why i am called a "racist" Amusing? No doubt. Racist? Hardly.

But this is the strategy of muslim bloggers - calling anyone who criticises islam a racist or bigot. Meanwhile, these same bloggers are silent when true racists are in their midst. On Ipouya's blog a poster name "iranianforaryans" whose hatred for non whites and Jews is legendary is either ignored or encouraged. Why? He's a muslim of course. And what does he have to say?

"God, I hate Jews! (Niggers, too!)"

iranianforaryans is not alone in his hatred. Muslim bloggers hate Jews with a surprising fervour. The next time some sack of islamic crap calls you an "islamophobe" remember their friend "iranianforaryans"...

My sons went and fought. None of them intended – even accidentally – to kill civilians, children or the elderly. They all resisted and confronted the enemy.

They had achievements and they were martyred.

Umm Nidal is with us today, because she is presenting herself to the world in a new capacity, as a candidate for the Palestinian Legislative Council.

Umm Nidal: I protect my sons from defying Allah, or from choosing a path that would not please Allah. This is what I fear, when it comes to my sons. But as for sacrifice, Jihad for the sake of Allah, or performing the duty they were charged with - this makes me happy.

Interviewer: What duty is this?

Umm Nidal: The sacred duty, Jihad for the sake of Allah. It is a sacred duty - one of the duties of Islam, which cannot be abandoned. We would be sinners if we did.

I prepared all my sons for jihad for the sake of Allah, whether by carrying out an attack, or by any other form of Jihad. I prepared myself for this. He who chooses a difficult road must be ready to bear the consequences.

Some people may consider this a tragedy, but by Allah, it is a blessing. When I hear about Muhammad’s martyrdom...

Interviewer: Tell me about the operation that Muhammad carried out.

In a poll taken after the Gaza disengagement by Norwegian NGO Fafo, 65% of Palestinians strongly supported Al Qaeda terror attacks in the US and Europe. (

A poll carried out in the Palestinian Authority shows 65% support for Al Qaeda terror attacks on the United States and European countries - the biggest donors to the PA. The poll comes at a time when US and European funding of the Palestinian Authority is at an all-time high.

With elections due to be held next month and the Hamas terror group gaining significantly in municipal elections and polls, the survey further illustrates the desire of a majority of PA Arabs to establish an Islamic state, similar to Iran. A whopping 79.9% of Palestinians would like the PA to follow Shari’a - Islamic religious law. Included in the figure are 11.3% of the respondents, who would like to see Shari’a supplemented by the laws of a PA Legislature.

“What is striking is the willingness of Palestinians to turn against even the Western countries upon whom they are so totally dependent in order to progress,” said Palestinian Media Watch (PMW) Director Itamar Marcus. “The poll underscores what PMW has been documenting for years - the profoundly negative impact hate education has had on PA society ... In Australia, Norway, Sweden and other Western nations, there is a distinct race-based crime in motion being ignored by the diversity police: Islamic men are raping Western women for ethnic reasons. We know this because the rapists have openly declared their sectarian motivations.

When a number of teenage Australian girls were subjected to hours of sexual degradation during a spate of gang rapes in Sydney that occurred between 1998 and 2002, the perpetrators of these assaults framed their rationale in ethnic terms. The young victims were informed that they were “sluts” and “Aussie pigs” while they were being hunted down and abused.

In Australia's New South Wales Supreme Court in December 2005, a visiting Pakistani rapist testified that his victims had no right to say no, because they were not wearing a headscarf.

And earlier this year Australians were outraged when Lebanese Sheik Faiz Mohammed gave a lecture in Sydney where he informed his audience that rape victims had no one to blame but themselves. Women, he said, who wore skimpy clothing, invited men to rape them.

A few months earlier, in Copenhagen, Islamic mufti and scholar, Shahid Mehdi created uproar when – like his peer in Australia – he stated that women who did not wear a headscarf were asking to be raped.

And with haunting synchronicity in 2004, the London Telegraph reported that visiting Egyptian scholar Sheik Yusaf al-Qaradawi claimed female rape victims should be punished if they were dressed immodestly when they were raped. He added, “For her to be absolved from guilt, a raped woman must have shown good conduct.”

In Norway and Sweden, journalist Fjordman warns of a rape epidemic. Police Inspector Gunnar Larsen stated that the steady increase of rape-cases and the link to ethnicity are clear, unmistakable trends. Two out of three persecutions for rape in Oslo are immigrants with a non-Western background and 80 percent of the victims are Norwegian women.

In Sweden, according to translator for Jihad Watch, Ali Dashti, “Gang rapes, usually involving Muslim immigrant males and native Swedish girls, have become commonplace.” A few weeks ago she said, “Five Kurds brutally raped a 13-year-old Swedish girl.”

In France, Samira Bellil broke her silence – after enduring years of repeated gang rapes in one of the Muslim populated public housing projects – and wrote a book, In the hell of the tournantes, that shocked France. Describing how gang rape is rampant in the banlieues, she explained to Time that, “any neighborhood girl who smokes, uses makeup or wears attractive clothes is a whore.”

Unfortunately, Western women are not the only victims in this epidemic. In Indonesia, in 1998, human rights groups documented the testimony of over 100 Chinese women who were gang raped during the riots that preceded the fall of President Suharto. Many of them were told: “You must be raped, because you are Chinese and non-Muslim.”

Christian Solidarity Worldwide reported that in April 2005, a 9-year-old Pakistani girl was raped, beaten with a cricket bat, hanged upside down from the ceiling, had spoonfuls of chillies poured into her mouth, and repeatedly bashed while handcuffed. Her Muslim neighbours told her they were taking revenge for the American bombing of Iraqi children and informed her they were doing it because she was an “infidel and a Christian.”

In Sudan – where Arab Muslims slaughter black Muslim and Christian Sudanese in an ongoing genocide – former Sudanese slave and now a human rights’ activist Simon Deng says he witnessed girls and women being raped and that the Arab regime of Khartoum sends its soldiers to the field to rape and murder. In other reports, women who are captured by government forces are asked; “Are you Christian or Muslim?” and those who answer Christian, are gang raped before having their breasts cut off.

My values and standards are based on freedom - from and of - religion. Whether you're a Mormon or a Scientologist makes no difference to me - as long as you don't want to convert or kill me of course. I am an agnostic and when I die, I expect to go to the place from whence I came – nothingness. I am not angry at muslims – I am angry at islam for turning this flawed and imperfect world into a darker, less secure and more violent place.

I think it’s important that muslims know how many of us feel towards their religion. Islam, as Muslims love to point out to us, is not really a religion but 'a whole way of life' from the state apparatus down to the individual defecating at home. Islam as a 'whole way of life', as a political, social and economic ideology has proven time and again that it is an utter failure, producing corrupt dictatorial regimes, grinding poverty, illiteracy and intellectual backwardness, misogyny, hatred of the Other, debilitating fatalism, dysfunctional individuals, institutionalized hypocrisy and nihilistic terrorists. THIS is Islam.

Up until 9/11, I was essentially ignorant about islam, aside from knowing it was one of the monotheistic religions, I had some peripheral understanding about customs (I knew not to offer to shake the hand of devout muslim women, nor to offer muslims alcohol or pork during social occasions) aside from this pathetic spoonful of knowledge - that was about it. I assumed that muslims were essentially like me, interested in building their family, career and nation. It wasn’t until I started reading about islam did I find out the frightening truth.

It is not an act of hatred against Muslims to point out the depredations of jihad ideology. I believe in the equality of rights and dignity of all people, and that is why I oppose the global jihad. I simply hold up to the light the appalling things muslims say and do about non-muslims and the equally appalling things that are written in the Koran and hadiths that muslims quote as they kill innocent people. That you find the facts of your religion to be “mean and hateful” speaks volumes about it – not me.

A couple of statements that I read recently have somewhat irked me. We had a Muslim leader suggesting that those who say Muslims take exception to Christmas decorations in the workplace are wrong. Then a more extreme view was advocated by a Muslim columnist in a national newspaper; she explained how this Christmas she’d be buying a tree, giving presents and serving halāl turkey in her home. So amidst all these voices declaring how much they don’t mind Christmas can I just point out that - I do? In fact if there ever were a day of the year that was in dire need of sabotaging then it’d have to be Christmas in my book.

How many times in the latter part of December do we get wished “Merry Christmas”? Simply put, too many! And the really irritating bit about it all is that it’s often said as a matter of routine and with little sincerity. So when you make the effort to point out that you don’t celebrate Christmas because you’re Muslim it can be met with “Look mate, I said Happy Christmas but I don’t really mean it, it’s just a phrase. You don’t have to give me your life story.”

Those that actually hang around for the explanation normally ask in shock “You mean you don’t give children presents?” Which contains a subtext of “Woe to you, oh child-torturer!”

“It’s a family festival, why don’t you just do it for the children’s sake?” Listen, I am doing it for the children, I’m purposely not indoctrinating them with this nonsense for their sake. Just because I don’t allow it in my home, nor give my kids presents, it doesn’t mean that I sit there on Christmas day branding their arms with hot coals. Think of it this way: last Tuesday what did you do? “Well nothing went to work, came home, nothing special.” Well that’s exactly what Christmas is to me – nothing special. In fact it’s the most irritating day of the year because I can’t do anything because you lot have shut down for 24 hours so that you can don red and white hats, drink and vomit (not necessarily in that order).

Strangers are the most difficult to respond to as they often turn their backs before you draw breath to explain. So you need a really concise reply to give as they disappear. I’ve variously heard suggested, “lakum dīnukum wa liya dīn”, “A’ūdhu billāh”, a friend told me that he normally just smiles and says “Allāhu akbar”.

My step brother suggested a slightly different approach:

“Merry Christmas!”
“Belated Ramadhan Karīm and Eid Mubārak!”
“Huh… what?”
“You know, the Islamic month of fasting and the festival at the end?”
“Yeah but… I’m not Muslim?”
“Yeah, and I’m not Christian/Pagan/Atheist (delete as applicable), so kindly keep your festival to yourself and I’ll do likewise!”

I like the way that our brother Gary Miller summarised the history behind the day:

“What great religious figure was [allegedly] the son of God, born in a stable or a cave at the end of December, who grew up and worked miracles, then died for the sins of men but three days later he was raised up?

Well as a matter of fact it could be any one of several dozen individuals, Osiris of the Egyptians, Adonis and Bacchus of the Greeks, Baal of the Babylonians, Mithras of the Persians, they all fit that description.”

There is an “It’s Christmas” aura that many exude and that for some reason we’re just supposed to accept that different rules apply. I purposely go out of my way to hammer home how normal a period this is for me. I remember when I had one of the local drunk/ticket-tout/scumbags stopped and searched by the police (which can be a part of my duty at work) on Christmas Eve. I was given this “But it’s Christmas, how could you?” puppy-dog-look. Hehe, not in my world it isn’t!

The only good thing about Christmas to my mind is the abundance of nuts. By which I’m referring to cashews and pistachios in the shops; and not, as funny as they may be, people falling down stairs or struggling home with more shopping than a mule could carry.

One person that every year receives Christmas cards from me is the bin man. And pending work colleagues (I seem to have a different manager every year) finally getting the point, I’ll doubtless be giving him many more over the years to come. “Here’s wishing you a Merry Christmas” and here’s wishing you’d just stuck it in the trash yourself and saved me doing it.

But the problem of Christmas-enthusiasm doesn’t end with non-Muslims; it’s the Muslim participation that’s more worrying. Suddenly tinsel starts appearing in the local Muslim-owned newsagents or grocers; putting aside for the moment that many often sell cigarettes, pork and alcohol. Actually, that reminds me about a Shaikh who studied in London for some time before returning to the UAE. He went into a newsagent like this and approached the shopkeeper.

“Do you have any whisky?” The shopkeeper knew who he was and became nervous, “Pardon?”
“You know whisky … to drink?” *makes drinking motion with hand*
“Well, no.”
“Why not?”
“Err… because it’s harām.”
“And what do you call that then?” *points at the top shelf of the magazine section where all the no-hayā’ material is on sale*

Muslim Christmas-ers, until recently, could hide behind Ramadhān; as the two were relatively close. I remember asking a Muslim chemist, “These decorations you have up, are they for Christmas or Ramadhān?” * Shifty eye movement * “Err… for Ramadhān!” But now that there is some distance between the two it isn’t as easy to conceal openly “joining in the fun”.

You only have to look at the local halāl butcher that puts up the sign “We would like to wish our customers a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.” Have you ever asked one why they do this? The answer is normally along the lines of “Brother, what can I do? It’s good for business.” I reasoned with one, if the non-Muslims had an annual festival where they celebrated your Dad’s inappropriate relationship with young boys, would you join in the festivities? Obviously not, so what about a festival alleging an even greater lie (i.e. son ship) and against someone who should be even more beloved to us than our fathers (i.e. Allāh)?
Didn’t Allāh tell us:

And they say, “The Most Merciful has taken [for Himself] a son.”
You have done an atrocious thing. The heavens almost rupture therefrom and the earth splits open and the mountains collapse in devastation
That they attribute to the Most Merciful a son.” (Maryam 19:88-91)?

So I hope you’ll excuse me but I find Christmas offensive!

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad stirred up international controversy Wednesday with a speech calling the Holocaust a "myth."

Ahmadinejad said the myth has been created by Europeans to create a Jewish state in the heart of the Islamic world.

"Today, they have created a myth in the name of Holocaust and consider it to be above God, religion and the prophets," Ahmadinejad said in a speech in the southeastern Iranian city of Zahedan.

Six million Jews were among those killed in Europe as part of the the Nazi Holocaust during the Second World War.

"If you [Europeans] committed this big crime, then why should the oppressed Palestinian nation pay the price?" Ahmadinejad asked in the speech which was carried live on state television.

"You [Europeans] have to pay the compensation yourself," he said, suggesting that all people in Israel should be transferred to other parts of the world.

"This is our proposal: give a part of your own land in Europe, the United States, Canada or Alaska to them [the Jews] so that the Jews can establish their country," he said.

Israel denounces 'rogue regime'

Israel's Foreign Ministry spokesman Mark Regev said Wednesday the comments show Iran is becoming a "rogue regime" with an "extremist ideology [and] a warped understanding of reality."

This is not the first time Ahmadinejad has spoken out against Israel or called into question the validity of the Holocaust.

Last week at a speech in Mecca, Saudi Arabia, he said "Some European countries insist on saying that Hitler killed millions of innocent Jews in furnaces and they insist on it to the extent that if anyone proves something contrary to that they condemn that person and throw them in jail."

In October he told a group of conservative students that Israel should be "wiped off the map."

"There is no doubt that the new wave of [attacks] in Palestine will wipe off this stigma [Israel] from the face of the Islamic world," he said.

The next day he stood by his words saying, "My words are the Iranian nation's words."

Ahmadinejad was elected last June with a goal to make the country "a modern, advanced, powerful and Islamic" model for the world.

A loyal hardliner and former mayor of Tehran, Ahmadinejad had the backing of Iran's upper and middle classes.

Italy tape: 'Joy' over beheading

MILAN, Italy (AP) -- Italian police were listening as the man identified as an Egyptian radical shouted with joy while watching a video of the beheading of American Nicholas Berg by his al Qaeda captors.

"Come nearer, watch closely, this is the politics you have to follow, the politics of the sword," he advised another man as Berg's screams rang out.
"Go to hell, enemy of God, kill him, kill him, cut it well, cut off his head," he said.

Authorities say the statements recorded from phone taps and microphones show that Rabei Osman Sayed Ahmed, a 34-year-old Egyptian facing trial in Milan next month on terrorism charges, preached a radical form of Islam and the need to carry out holy war against Western elements.

The trial is considered one of Europe's major terrorist prosecutions in recent years. Ahmed is not only accused of terrorist crimes in Italy and of having links to cells across Europe, but he also is considered one of the masterminds of the March 11, 2004, train bombings in Madrid that killed 191 people and wounded more than 1,600.

Guido Guella, Ahmed's lawyer, said his client maintains his innocence and claims he "never had any role in any association with terrorist aims." He said the Egyptian also says he is not the person speaking on the tapes.

But prosecutors say the statements, which appear in a report prepared by Italian anti-terrorism police, are proof of Ahmed's extremist beliefs. He has been indicted on terrorism charges for allegedly planning an attack in an undisclosed location.

In the May 28, 2004, conversation about the Berg tape, Ahmed's co-defendant, 22-year-old Egyptian Yahia Ragheh -- described by authorities as a would-be suicide bomber -- questions Ahmed's assertions.

"It's not a sin?" he asks.

"Who said this?" Ahmed replied. "It's never a sin ... because the cause is never a sin ... Are you scared? Are you shocked?"

"No no, I think it is a sin, I only think it's a sin," Ragheh said.

"When you enter a movement it's never a sin because there's a cause, the Islamic cause, all in hell ... everyone finishes in hell, everyone. For those who wound Islam the end is this."

Ragheh's lawyer, Roberta Ligotti, did not return calls from The Associated Press seeking comment.

Berg, a 26-year-old entrepreneur, went missing April 10, 2004, after leaving his Baghdad hotel. The video that surfaced shows him in an orange jumpsuit being held by captors, then being beheaded by a man who some U.S. officials believe to be terror leader Abu Musab al-Zarqawi.

The taped conversations also reveal Ahmed's alleged connection to the Madrid bombings, authorities say.

"There is something, there is something I can't hide from you," he said, lowering his voice in a conversation overheard in a Milan apartment two months after the attacks. "The Madrid attack is my project and those who died as martyrs are my dearest friends."

Spanish officials have described Ahmed as one of the March 11 ringleaders. Italian Interior Minister Giuseppe Pisanu said after his arrest that Ahmed was "probably among the principal authors" of the Madrid bombings, and that he was "preparing other attacks."

Officials have not said where Ahmed, who was trained in the use of explosives in the Egyptian army, was planning the attacks.

Iran's Ahmadinejad says Israel should be moved to Europe

Iran's hardline President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said that if Germany and Austria feel responsible for massacring Jews during World War II, a state of Israel should be established on their soil. Ahmadinejad, who sparked an international outcry in October when he said Israel "must be wiped off the map", also repeated his view Thursday that the Jewish state was a "tumour".

"Now that you believe the Jews were oppressed, why should the Palestinian Muslims have to pay the price?" the hardline president asked in an interview with Iran's Arabic-language satellite channel, Al-Alam.

"Why did you come to give a piece of Islamic land and the territory of the Palestinian people to them?

"You oppressed them, so give a part of Europe to the Zionist regime so they can establish any government they want. We would support it," he said, according to a transcript of his original Farsi-language comments given to AFP.

"So, Germany and Austria, come and give one, two or any number of your provinces to the Zionist regime so they can create a country there which all of Europe will support and the problem will be solved at its root," he said.

"Why do they insist on imposing themselves on other powers and creating a tumour so there is always tension and conflict?"

Al-Alam said Ahmadinejad was speaking in the holy city of Mecca in Saudi Arabia where he was attending a two-day meeting of the Organisation of the Islamic Conference that opened Wednesday.

"Is it not true that European countries insist that they committed a Jewish genocide? They say that Hitler burned millions of Jews in furnaces ... and exiled them," Ahmadinejad told Al-Alam.

"Then because the Jews have been oppressed during the Second World War, therefore they (the Europeans) have to support the occupying regime of Qods (Jerusalem). We do not accept this," he said.

He also noted that European countries "believe in this so much and are so determined that any researcher who denies it (the Holocaust) with historical evidence is dealt with in a most harsh way and sent to prison."

The Holocaust was Nazi Germany's systematic slaughter of an estimated six million Jews between 1933 and 1945, mainly in the latter years of World War II.

Official Iranian media frequently carry sympathetic interviews with Holocaust revisionist historians -- who attempt to establish that the number of Jews killed by the Nazis was wildly exaggerated.

Iran refuses to recognise Israel.

Ahmadinejad said his second proposal was for "a referendum in Palestine for all the original Palestinians" to decide on the future of what is now Israel, the Gaza Strip and West Bank.

But the president said that "the best solution is resistance so that the enemies of the Palestinians accept the reality and the right of the Palestinian people to have land."

Dutch police arrested the 14 men after the murder of Theo van Gogh last November by Mohammed Bouyeri, who shot and stabbed the filmmaker before slashing his throat, an act prosecutors said at his trial in July "evoked beheadings in the Middle East, Chechnya, Afghanistan and Iraq".

Prosecutors suspect Bouyeri, now serving life in jail, held meetings in his home for the group, who they say wanted to destabilize society establish an Islamic state through violence.

The trial is a test of a new Dutch law, which introduced the charge of "membership of a criminal organization with terrorist intent" carrying a maximum sentence of 15 years. The group of Muslim men are of largely Moroccan immigrant descent.

Monday's proceedings, in a packed high-security court nicknamed the "bunker", started with an attempt to question Malika Chabi, the 17-year-old former wife of one of the accused, Nouriddin El Fatmi, also known as Fouad.

Dressed in a long, rose-colored robe with a black headscarf, Chabi refused to speak in court, but the statement she had given to police earlier was read out by the presiding judge.

"A throat must be cut from the front, but not entirely so there is maximum suffering. Fouad said this while a film was shown on which people were beheaded," her statement said.

"He showed knives and films about slaughtering and showed us how to take a knife out of its scabbard and said he and Bouyeri stole sheep from a farm to practice slaughtering."

The judge said Chabi told police that El Fatmi had said they should drive a car carrying explosives into a shopping center to die as martyrs and then quoted verses from the Koran.

The Religious Policeman FAQ

I've been getting quite a few emails of late, so I thought that I would update my previous FAQ.

1. Who are you?

I am a Saudi, originally from Riyadh, currently an expatriate in the United Kingdom. I am married (to my one and only ever wife), have a family, with a Filipino maid and driver (her husband) who are at the moment enjoying a paid sabbatical back home . Beyond that, I am not prepared to disclose.

2. Is that your photo?

No, it's not. It is actually Sheikh Ibrahim Bin Abdullah Al-Ghaith, General President for the Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice. The head "Religious Policeman", or Muttawa. Callsign "Mutt One"

3. Why The Religious Policeman?

Because, in my opinion, the Religious Police epitomize what is wrong with my country at present. They combine religious fanaticism and intolerance with the apparatus of a police state. They are recruited from the dregs of society, yet they presume to tell other God-fearing people how to conduct their religious lives. They killed innocent young lives in Makkah, yet they were never held to account.

4. Why are you publishing a Blog?

I'm a great believer in the Internet, and in the power of information to cast a light into the darker corners of our world. Saudi Arabia is certainly one of those dark corners. I'm hoping that people will recognize that on the whole we are good folk, just like anyone else, but caught between an ultra-conservative Royal dictatorship on one side, and a fundamentalist religious establishment on the other. I am hopeful that this will inform their opinions of us. I would also like, in my own small way, to educate opinion within Saudi Arabia and around the world that might start to engineer change in our country.

5. Is it dangerous to do this?

The ruling elite would not, if or when they think about it, look kindly upon my efforts. If found out, I would certainly lose my job, as already happens to those who publish critical letters in the press. I might also become a guest of Prince Nayif, until I "got my mind right". However I'm not a super-hero; if I suspect that a net is closing, then I will cease blogging.

6. How do you avoid being intercepted?

All Saudi ISP's are connected to the outside world thru a bank of servers in the KACST (King AbdulAziz City of Science and Technology), where no doubt much listening goes on. However, like many Saudis, I illegally use a satellite link for my connexion. This materializes who-knows-where in the wider Internet. Maybe there is also some form of relay involved. Who knows? While in the UK, of course, things are much easier.

7. Where did you learn to speak such good English?

Thank you, very kind of you to say so. I was educated both in the UK and the USA. God also gave me the gift of being a linguist; indeed, I would go so far as to say that I am a language "geek". I could make myself sound like most Arabs speaking in English, simply by missing out "the", "a" and "an" all the time, but that would be difficult for everyone to read. I suppose I am also a bit of a mimic. In addition, learning English exposed me to a whole world of literature, from Shakespeare thru Tolstoy (in translation) to Garrison Keillor and all points between, not to mention all those movies, not to mention the trashiest bits of 21st century popular culture.

8. What did you study abroad?

That would be a giveaway! However in the UK I learnt to speak correctly, to be polite, to play soccer and cricket, and never to smile when making a joke. In the USA I learnt to misspell ;-), that Jews are not only human but can be really nice and extremely funny, to question and challenge, and that people only get the respect they deserve.

9. Are you really a Saudi and a Muslim?

Well, perhaps I am like that dog in the cartoon. Perhaps you all are, as well. Perhaps all the humans are doing what they should do, not being on the internet, but spending time with their families. Saudis are in the best position to judge from my writings and my knowledge of Saudi society, whether I am genuine or not. However I will not, as I was once requested by someone, "prove" my nationality, presumably by publishing a scan of my passport and Id card, for reasons that will be obvious to everyone else. If there is anyone who cannot read this blog without having proof of my nationality, they may be more comfortable with some of the other 3.5 million blogs out there.

As a Muslim, I certainly feel more comfortable in countries such as the UK, where they generally have have a more relaxed, but no less holy, approach to their religious life. Although it is not for me to judge, I am possibly a better Muslim in terms of the fundamentals of the religion, rather than in terms of the ritualistic rules-based "praying-by-numbers" approach. I also believe that whatever we call Him, we all worship the same God, and he requires us to love one another. I am not going to kill you because you read from a different book.

10. Will you reply to emails?

As I was taught at school, I will aim to reply to every letter I get, even if briefly. I will answer simple questions if they are not too taxing. However I cannot answer detailed lists of questions, but may address them in subsequent posts, as the opportunity arises. Occasionally I get requests to help write peoples' school assignments or Ph.D. theses, which is very flattering, but not part of the service! Also I cannot enter into an exchange of correspondence that might lead me to reveal any further personal information.

I am also grateful for emails pointing me to relevant items on the internet.

11. Why don't you write in Arabic?

Because the audience I am addressing speaks English. It consists of educated Saudis and Arabs, who speak English to a greater or lesser extent, and also the wider body of world public opinion, also largely English-speaking, living in countries that support the Saudi regime thru trade and political patronage.

If I were also to address an Arabic-only audience within Saudi Arabia, it would not just be a question of language, it would also be a question of style. To be frank, my brand of humor does not get many laughs in a Bedu encampment. The style would need to be simple and folksy, which doesn't appeal to me personally. If someone else wants to do that sort of blog, I will give them every encouragement.

12. Do you hate Saudi Arabia?

I don't hate Arabia; it is my country. I detest the name "Saudi", because it implies that the Saud family own it, instead of it belonging to God and the people. How would you feel about "The Bush States" or "Windsor Britain"? That aside, it is an ambivalent relationship. I love the sense of family and community in the country, but I don't like its backwardness, and the way it is used by royal and religious elites for their own ends.

I want to see Saudi Arabia develop and improve, and quickly, so that it can be a source of real pride for everyone. But it will only do that when it faces up to its problems, and decides to do something about them. Not everyone likes doing that, it makes them uncomfortable, and they often resent the people who do say "That's wrong!". So it can be convenient to try and dismiss people like me as "unpatriotic" or "un-Saudi". I'll live with that.

13. Do you hate Islam?

No, but I detest the people who have hijacked the religion for their own perverted ends, be they Wahabbi fundamentalists or Al Qaeeda terrorists. They don't represent the vast majority, but are bringing shame on all Muslims. In response to this, Muslims react in one of four ways:

(i) To ignore the problem, to perform their own devotions, but otherwise keep their heads down.

(ii) To deny that there is a problem, or when the problem is obvious, to deny that Muslims are involved, or when it's obvious that Muslims are involved, to deny that Islam is anything to do with it, or when it's obvious that Islam is a factor, to say that it's a "special case", etc. etc.

(iii) To become apologists. "You need to understand our history / our culture / our being victims of colonization /our persecution etc. etc."

(iv) To criticize. Again, this makes (i) to (iii) feel very uncomfortable. So internal critics get labelled as "apostates", "Islamophobes", "bad Muslims", "traitors" etc. However, history tells us again and again that (i) to (iii) don't bring about change; it either comes from internal criticism, or it is forced from outside. And I don't want to see Islam "reformed" by some neo-conservative Christian fundamentalist "Holy War".

14. Do you make this stuff up?

I know a lot of this stuff sounds wacky, but all I'm doing is reporting what's been published elsewhere, and passing my own comments. I always give a reference to the original text; if you don't like what you read there, don't blame me, I'm only the messenger!

The dialogs are of course my own creation; however the opinions and attitudes of the characters won't be a million miles from what I've portrayed.

15. Are you optimistic for change?

Well, we all have our good days and our bad days. I think we'll see some tinkering around. Perhaps the cinema, showing "approved" movies.

But long-term, I think the answer is O-I-L. While ever those countries that could bring about change, depend on the Kingdom for their oil, and as long as the oil is not threatened by Al Qaeeda, I don't think we'll see too much improvement.

But I'll soldier on anyway, doing my own thing.

Convert to islam - kill infidels...

SHE came from an ordinary family in an industrial Belgian town. She used to sell baguettes in a bakery, and worked as a waitress in a café. She showed the rebelliousness of a typical teenager, but even in their worst dreams her parents never imagined that Muriel Degauque would end her life by blowing herself up in a suicide bomb attack against American troops in Iraq.
The story of the 38-year-old Belgian’s journey from baker’s assistant to Baghdad bomber, making her the first Western woman suicide bomber, emerged in shocking detail yesterday as her parents tried to make sense of her life.

Jean and Liliane Degauque, a former crane operator and a medical secretary, said that they had watched their daughter’s gradual transition from Christian to Islamic zealot, and feared the worst when they saw the TV news on Tuesday.

“For about a month we had been trying to call her and just kept getting her voice mail. When we heard on Tuesday evening on the television that a Belgian woman had blown herself up in Iraq, we thought it was Muriel,” her mother said. A visit from the Belgian police the next morning confirmed those fears, and by yesterday morning Muriel’s friendly, pretty, face was smiling from the front of a Belgian national paper. “Here is the Belgian kamikaze, killed in Iraq,” proclaimed the headline.

Muriel was born in Charleroi, grew up in her brick home at 33 Rue de l’Europe — a quiet street in the shadow of a coal tip — and was educated at the local high school. “She was absolutely normal as a kid,” Jeannine Samain, a neighbour, said. She was never easy. “When she broke a vase in the sitting room, she said that Jean-Paul (her older brother) had done it even though he had been upstairs doing his homework ,” her mother told La Dernière Heure.

As an adolescent, she dabbled in drugs, smoked, drank heavily and sometimes ran away from home. “One time I had to go 170km to get her back from the Ardennes,” M Degauque said. She was more interested in boyfriends than studies. “I don’t know how many of them she had.” She found jobs as a waitress and a baker’s assistant, but was accused of stealing from the till. Tragedy then struck the family when Jean-Paul was killed in a road accident.

Muriel moved from Charleroi to Brussels, which has a large Islamic community. She married and divorced a Turkish man, and had a long relationship with an Algerian, who converted her to Islam in 2001. Three years ago she married Issam Goris, who was born in Belgium to Moroccan parents, and followed him to Morocco.

“They told us that they had a house in Morocco and some horses, and a Mercedes and three motorbikes. We never found out whether it was true,” said her mother, who blames Goris for brainwashing her daughter. When Muriel returned to Belgium, her mother no longer recognised her. She had become “more Muslim than Muslim”, she said. “The religion was totally ingrained in her. She only lived for that.”

Initially, she wore a hijab, or Islamic veil, but soon started wearing the head-to-toe chador that leaves the face visible. Finally she wore a burka. She became ever more estranged from her parents. “When we saw them, they imposed their rules. We were at home, but my husband had to eat in the kitchen with Issam while the women ate together in the sitting room. There was no question of putting on the TV or opening a beer,” M Degauque said.

“My husband got so fed up that he said the next time they came round we should leave them by themselves.”

Muriel and her husband lived in a small two-room flat in Saint Gilles, one of the poorest and most racially mixed areas of Brussels, paying €375 (£255) a month rent.

In mid-September they left, telling their landlord they were going to Kenya to try to find Goris’s father. “They had stayed in the flat for two years. I never had any problem with them. They did not leave any forwarding address, saying they might come back in six months to a year,” her landlord told The Times. “She wore a burka all the time. I never saw her face, only her eyes,” he added.

But Kenya was not their real destination. The two radical Muslims instead drove by car across Turkey and Syria into Iraq, determined to kill themselves and as many Americans as possible.

According to conflicting reports, Muriel killed either only herself, or six people. On the same day, in a separate incident, Goris was shot dead by American troops before he could detonate his belt-bomb.

"Most likely to become a martyr"

FALLS CHURCH, Va. -- An American citizen whose father worked for the Saudi Embassy is convicted for conspiring with Al Qaida operatives to assassinate President George W. Bush.

Ahmed Abu Ali, of Falls Church, Va., admitted to the crime in a videotaped confession.

As a boy, Abu Ali attended the Saudi Islamic Academy in Alexandria. He even became a member of the National Honor Society. In his senior year, Ali's classmates voted him "the most likely to become a martyr."

In the video, the 24-year-old said he went to Saudi Arabia in 2002 to study Islam, and met an Al Qaida operative who invited him to join the Jihad against America.

"I immediately accepted because of my hatred of the U.S., for what I felt was its support of Israel against the Palestinian people," Abu Ali said on the tape.

Abu Ali also admitted that he suggested blowing up American warplanes, warships, or targeting hi-ranking U.S. officials.

He also said it was his Al Qaida contact's idea to kill the president.

Ali Abu went on to say on the videotape, "I preferred this idea because it was easier to carry out since the U.S. president often appears in pubic places."...

During his trial, Ali testified that the Saudis beat the confession out of him. But jurors saw him on tape pretend to cock a rifle and laugh.

"What was striking was how relaxed he looked, almost carefree...[he] didn't look like someone tortured, pressured into confessing," said Roger Cressey, an NBC News Terror Analyst.

THE sister of a failed British suicide bomber allegedly taunted her pupils days after 9/11: "Hands up everybody who has relations in New York? Well, they're dead."

But supply teacher Parveen Sharif and brother Zahid were yesterday cleared of failing to alert police over their brother Omar Sharif's mission to blow up Mike's Place bar in Israel.

The jury was not told of the alleged comments to primary pupils, which were said to include her boasting: "I'm on Osama bin Laden's team."

Parveen, 37, denied the claims which emerged in pre-trial submissions made at the Old Bailey.

Ruling the evidence inadmissible, the Recorder of London Michael Hyam said: "Although the complaint about what Parveen was alleged to have said was made within a day or two, no note was made at the school or anywhere else as to what she had said.

"It is clear the schoolchildren knew she was a suspect for the offences."

Parveen and Zahid were the first to be tried under laws which make it an offence for those with knowledge of a terrorist offence not to come forward.

The prosecution alleged emails between Omar and his family shortly before the April 2003 attack proved they knew of his plans. It was also claimed Parveen emailed Omar encouraging him to go through with it. But the jury cleared Parveen of incitement.

Omar, 27, from Derby, and friend Asif Hanif, 21, from Hounslow, West London, hoped to become Britain's first Islamic martyrs.

Hanif detonated his bomb in Mike's Place bar in Tel Aviv, killing three people and injuring 65. But Omar's bomb failed to explode. His body was found in the sea 12 days later.

Omar's wife Tahira Tabassum, 29, was cleared of failing to disclose information relating to terrorism at a trial last year. Then, jurors failed to reach verdicts on Parveen and Zahid, 38, both from Derby.

In the latest trial, the jury heard that eight days before the bombing, Omar wrote an email to Zahid.

He said: "Difficult times may lie ahead for you and your family in the next few weeks or months if Allah wills. Plan now and get rid of any material you may consider problematic." In the same email he told Tahira to look after their three children.

He added: "We did not spend a long time together in this world but I hope through Allah's mercy and your patience we shall spend an eternity together."

It ended: "Delete this message."

Parveen wrote a reply a day later which was said to have encouraged him to die for their cause.

She emailed: "Your guarantee is for the eternal life ahead but our soul is eternal. You should not be sad but determined in your aims." She ended: "We will speak to you real soon as we are guaranteed this. There is no goodbyes just a lapse of time. May Allah join us all soon."

Police believed the email meant they would all meet in paradise as a reward for Omar's martyrdom.

But outside court Zahid said: "We did not know what our brother was going to do. It shocked us as much as everyone else and we are still shocked.

"There were many misunderstandings about our religion and culture in this case but people tried to reach out and understand."

Grampian Primary School, in Sinfin, Derby, said: "Parveen worked here through an agency for two days in September 2001.

"At the end of that time, pupils complained about comments she made in class which had upset them.

"As a result, the supply agency was told not to send Parveen again."

Her then employer Select Education plc said: "Parveen's teaching ability has never been brought into question. Parveen accepted the comments were inappropriate and undertook not to repeat them."

Offensive?

Last month, Governor Mitt Romney of Massachusetts suggested that since virtually every terrorist attack around the world has been carried out by Muslims, it might behoove us to listen in on what is being preached in American mosques.

Strict Islamic countries find women wearing white socks sexually provocative and offensive. Pictures of humans or animals are offensive and men who shave their faces are offensive. Card playing is offensive. Girls attending school and receiving an education are also offensive. Women who vote are also offensive.

A woman daring to leave her home without permission even to rush her sick child to a doctor is offensive. Of course, female doctors are offensive so any woman requiring medical care can’t receive it because all the doctors are men.

Islamics also seem to be offended by: America, Great Britain, Poland, Israel, Australia, Spain, Italy, Japan, Russia, and New Zealand, just to mention a few countries. Interestingly, Islam doesn’t seem to be as offended by France or Germany.

In fairness, what Islam doesn’t find offensive should be examined. Many Muslims did not find the murder of 3000 people on 9/11 offensive. Saddam Hussein, responsible for the deaths of hundreds of thousands fellow Muslims, was not offensive. Forbidding the practice of other religions in an Islamic country is not offensive while daring to question what might be going on inside a mosque in America, is terribly offensive.

The murder of thousands of Iraqi Muslims doesn’t seem to offend Islamics, as long the killing is being done by other Muslims. If an American soldier kills a Muslim trying to kill him, that is offensive. The beheading of helpless prisoners by “freedom fighters” is not offensive. Putting mass murderers in a prison camp that provides good food, allows time to pray, provides copies of the Quran and prayer rugs, gives medical and dental care, and allows Islamic clerics to provide the prisoners with religious council, is offensive.

The Quran touching the floor is offensive but urinating on or burning the Bible is not. Profiling people from Islamic countries that support terrorism is offensive but imprisoning Christians for wearing a cross is not.

Teaching people about Islam is encouraged, but teaching Christianity is a beheading offense.

Islamics are not offended when Omar Ahmad, co-founder of the Council on American-Islamic Relations, declares that it is the goal of CAIR to replace our Constitution with the Quran and is incensed if Americans are offended. After all, that is being disrespectful of the Quran. Any American who does not want the Quran replacing the Constitution and who speaks out against Islam is immediately labeled an “Islamaphobe.” When Islam is involved, there is no freedom of speech.

Another thing that doesn’t seem to offend many Muslims is the killing of a ten-year-old rape victim. She must have been “asking for it.” The little vixen soiled the family name and was probably wearing white socks. Also not offensive is the stoning to death of women who are merely suspected of “being with a man not their husband.” Hanging college students who dare to speak out against oppressive and cruel ayatollahs isn’t offensive to many Muslims either.

Muslims are not offended by the age-old Islamic tradition of forcing their young daughters to marry their 60-year-old uncles. Girls as young as 12 are forced to marry their cousins and occasionally even their half-brothers. This is done to keep the family money in the family. However, this practice also produces the genetic defects caused by constant inbreeding.

What Americans should find offensive is how the media, the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), CAIR, and American leftists recoil in horror if a cruel word is said about Islam as they all set about the business of destroying our own Christian-based society. As socialists and atheists slowly remove all traces of God from America, Islamics are standing ready to fill the void with Allah and Islamic law. Any American who doesn’t believe that we are war with Islam isn’t paying attention.

Americans need to wake up from their liberal-media and television-induced stupor. CAIR and the ACLU do not represent American culture but they are both being allowed to destroy it. That offends me. It should offend you.

This article was written a few years ago but is especially prescient now that so many muslims long for an islamic "government". A typical muslim women had this to say on another blog: "Islam is the solution" sounds right to me. Why is it assumed that "democracy is the solution"? As a Muslim, I don't have any particular desire for a democratic state.

The woman of Afghanistan see the world through a swatch of mesh. In September of 1994, a group of religious young men from Pakistan, the "Taliban," led by Mullah Mohammad Omar, appeared on the Afghanistan political scene. They gave the impression that they had come to rid Afghanistan of corruption and disorder. The Taliban attacked and captured provinces until they got to the capital Kabul. After nine-months and 231 bombs the Afghanistan government surrendered. The Taliban claim to follow a pure, fundamentalist Islamic ideology, yet they display harsh oppression against women. Within Islam, women are allowed to earn and control their own money and participate in public life.

Women in Afghanistan, under Taliban rule, were confined to their homes unless a close male relative escorted them. Women must wear a "burqa," and may not speak in public; their escorts must speak for them so they do not excite the males with the sound of their voices.

At age eight, girls are not allowed to attend school. In 1996, women were outlawed from owning businesses. Those that did were told to shut them down. In Afghanistan, 70 percent of school teachers, 50 percent of government officials and 40 percent of the doctors were women prior to 1996.

A male physician cannot treat women, yet at the same time, very few women are allowed to practice medicine. Many women and young girls died of treatable ailments because they were prohibited from being treated by a male doctor or being placed in hospitals where males are present. Instead, women were placed in small dirty clinics where there is no running water. Their supper come at six every night in a wheelbarrow. In the only maternity hospital, most women deliver their children on the floor or double up in a twin bed with another expectant mother. Several women tried to commit suicide by drinking household cleaner: they would rather die than live in these horrible conditions. Surveyed by Physicians for Human Rights, 97 percent of Afghan women exhibit signs of suffering major depression.

Women had to paint all of the first floor windows black in their homes, so men couldn’t look inside. They had to have black curtains along the windows of the buses that they rode in so that no one could look inside.

Every Friday, people gathered in the city of Kabul to watch the public whippings, stonings, amputations and executions of people who had dared to oppose the Taliban. Several Internet reports and magazines articles expose the Taliban’s cruelty. One elderly woman was walking when her ankle showed from underneath her burqua. The "religious police" saw her and broke her ankle with a metal cable. A woman tried to flee Afghanistan with a male who was not her close relative and was stoned to death for adultery. One woman dared to disobey the Taliban by teaching little girls in her own home. They shot her in front of her husband, daughter and students.

RIYADH, Saudi Arabia (Reuters) -- A court sentenced a teacher to 40 months in prison and 750 lashes for "mocking religion" after he discussed the Bible and praised Jews, a Saudi newspaper reported yesterday.

Al-Madina newspaper said secondary-school teacher Mohammad al-Harbi, who will be flogged in public, was taken to court by his colleagues and students.

He was charged with promoting a "dubious ideology, mocking religion, saying the Jews were right, discussing the Gospel and preventing students from leaving class to wash for prayer," the newspaper said.

Saudi Arabia, the birthplace of Islam, strictly upholds the austere Wahhabi school of Islam and bases its constitution on the Koran and the sayings of the prophet Muhammad. Public practice of any other religion is banned. [..]

Khan states: "’It is very clear, brothers and sisters, that the path of jihad and the desire for martyrdom is embedded in the holy prophet and his beloved companions.

There you have it. It is the Islamic call to worldwide rule in the name of the Koran’s Allah. In order to rule, Muslims must have no planetary inhabitants but themselves, cowardly Muslims excluded by being executed along with the non-Muslims.

This Khan mandate is stated in the context of cowardly Muslims in England giving allegiance to the Queen rather than bowing down solely to the Islamic deity. That is abhorrent to the likes of Khan; therefore, the Muslims now residing in England must be taught a lesson. They must fall in line with killing off non-Muslims, which would include the Queen, and thus set up Islamic rule in all of England . The Queen must go. Allah must rule from her throne in her place.

Al-Qaeda has gone so far as to state that the Queen is the "severest enemy of Islam." This is broadcast in a video message "justifying the July bombings in London ."

Here and there across the globe, insane Muslims are corralling their own cultists into killing off the masses. These crazies then move into such Muslim nations as Jordan to press the point. They move into a Muslim wedding feast to underline their ambition as being supreme.

This is World War III. It is held in various unpredictable locales. It is seen through by warriors dressed in wedding attendees’ garb. It is a whole different mode of combat. Nevertheless, it is just as real and deadly.

Finally, with the Jordanian massacre, the Muslims leaders such as the Jordanian King are castigating their own. It is time, long overdue time. Far past real-time in real-life. Nevertheless, peace-peoples are happy that at last somebody belonging to the Islamic clique is speaking out against Islamic killers international. Time will tell if their voices increase in volume and number. Don’t count on it being a wild surge for peace. Nevertheless, in these confusing times anything is possible.

Obviously with the Queen of England under attack, every democracy leader of every freedom-based country is under attack. It is merely a matter of time until there is an assassination and then a number of them dominoing the hellish craze of Islamic slaughterers who thrill at blood in the streets.

That is why France is wise to inform the public that Muslim rioters will be deported promptly. The British lawmakers were amiss in not supporting British Prime Minister Tony Blair in his efforts to corral the social destroyers by putting them away for at least a 90-day period while investigations were undergoing.

The United States has been walking the fine line in not wanting to incite Muslim riots and at the same time having the President refer to Islam as "an ideology of hate." Blair has called it an "evil ideology." Yet on the other hand, Mr. Bush placed the Koran in the White House library for the first time at which time he invited Muslims to a dinner in the White House. Laura Bush met in another room with Muslim women to celebrate the occasion.

So it appears that national leaders don’t know what to do to stave off the Muslim killers. They placate them. They threaten them. They deport them. They tolerate them. They pat them on the back. They smile at them. They scowl at them.

All the while the Queen sits upon her throne — in danger.

(1) Why are you so quiet?
Since the first Israelis were targeted for death by Muslim terrorists blowing themselves up in the name of your religion and Palestinian nationalism, I have been praying to see Muslim demonstrations against these atrocities. Last week's protests in Jordan against the bombings, while welcome, were a rarity. What I have seen more often is mainstream Muslim spokesmen implicitly defending this terror on the grounds that Israel occupies Palestinian lands. We see torture and murder in the name of Allah, but we see no anti-torture and anti-murder demonstrations in the name of Allah.

There are a billion Muslims in the world. How is it possible that essentially none have demonstrated against evils perpetrated by Muslims in the name of Islam? This is true even of the millions of Muslims living in free Western societies. What are non-Muslims of goodwill supposed to conclude? When the Israeli government did not stop a Lebanese massacre of Palestinians in the Sabra and Chatilla refugee camps in Lebanon in 1982, great crowds of Israeli Jews gathered to protest their country's moral failing. Why has there been no comparable public demonstration by Palestinians or other Muslims to morally condemn Palestinian or other Muslim-committed terror?

(2) Why are none of the Palestinian terrorists Christian?

If Israeli occupation is the reason for Muslim terror in Israel, why do no Christian Palestinians engage in terror? They are just as nationalistic and just as occupied as Muslim Palestinians.

(3) Why is only one of the 47 Muslim-majority countries a free country?

According to Freedom House, a Washington-based group that promotes democracy, of the world's 47 Muslim countries, only Mali is free. Sixty percent are not free, and 38% are partly free. Muslim-majority states account for a majority of the world's "not free" states. And of the 10 "worst of the worst," seven are Islamic states. Why is this?

(4) Why are so many atrocities committed and threatened by Muslims in the name of Islam?

Young girls in Indonesia were recently beheaded by Muslim murderers. Last year, Muslims — in the name of Islam — murdered hundreds of schoolchildren in Russia. While reciting Muslim prayers, Islamic terrorists take foreigners working to make Iraq free and slaughter them. Muslim daughters are murdered by their own families in the thousands in "honor killings." And the Muslim government in Iran has publicly called for the extermination of Israel.

(5) Why do countries governed by religious Muslims persecute other religions?

No church or synagogue is allowed in Saudi Arabia. The Taliban destroyed some of the greatest sculptures of the ancient world because they were Buddhist. Sudan's Islamic regime has murdered great numbers of Christians.

Instead of confronting these problems, too many of you deny them. Muslims call my radio show to tell me that even speaking of Muslim or Islamic terrorists is wrong. After all, they argue, Timothy McVeigh is never labeled a "Christian terrorist." As if McVeigh committed his terror as a churchgoing Christian and in the name of Christ, and as if there were Christian-based terror groups around the world.

Moscow, November 1, Interfax - The number of ethnic Muslims in Russia who adopted Christianity is 2 million, while the number of the Orthodox who have been converted to Islam is only 2,5 thousand, stated Roman Silantyev, executive secretary of the Inter-religious Council in Russia.

‘Christianization happens not so much as a result of some purposeful missionary activity (in which only Protestants are engaged) as under the influence of Russian culture which has express Christian roots’, Silantyev said in a interview published this week by the Itogi weekly.

According Silantyev, the converts are predominantly Muslims by birth, while ‘those who really confess Islamic values and attend mosque on a regular basis rarely change their faith’.

‘The assimilation of ethnic and religious minorities is an inevitable process in any society. In Russia it is accelerated due to extremist activities’, the Islamic researcher believes.

For instance, he says, as a result of what happened in Beslan, the proportion of Muslims in North Ossetia has decreased at least by 30%, while in Beslan itself, where Muslims had comprised from 30 to 40% of the population, their number has decreased at least by half.

‘As even Muslim sources confirm, after each terrorist action, thousands and may be even dozens of thousands of ethnic Muslims adopt baptism’, Silantyev stated.

At the same time, the expert accounts for the small number of ethnic Orthodox people who have adopted Islam for the last 15 years, among other things, by the fact that ‘for some reason Russians seem to be more willing to join sects than Islam’.

Suicide Bombers Kill 57 at Jordan Hotels.

AMMAN, Jordan - Suicide bombers carried out nearly simultaneous attacks on three U.S.-based hotels in the Jordanian capital Wednesday night, killing at least 57 people and wounding 115 in what appeared to be an al-Qaida assault on an Arab kingdom with close ties to the United States.

The explosions hit the Grand Hyatt, Radisson SAS and Days Inn hotels just before 9 p.m. One of the blasts took place inside a wedding hall where 300 guests were celebrating — joined by a man strapped with explosives who had infiltrated the crowd. Black smoke rose into the night, and wounded victims stumbled from the hotels.

“We thought it was fireworks for the wedding but I saw people falling to the ground,” said Ahmed, a wedding guest at the five-star Radisson who did not give his surname. “I saw blood. There were people killed. It was ugly.”

Jordan’s deputy prime minister, Marwan Muasher, said nobody claimed responsibility but that Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, the Jordanian-born leader of al-Qaida in Iraq, was a “prime suspect.”

From the "why am I not surprised" category - Muslims rampaging in the Paris suburb of Sevran poured gasoline on a handicapped woman and set her on fire.

A handicapped woman was doused with petrol and set on fire by youths during another night of rioting in Paris.

The 56-year-old suffered third degree burns to 20% of her body in the attack.

Witnesses said a youth poured petrol over the woman and then threw a Molotov cocktail on to the bus she was travelling on in the suburb of Sevran.

Other passengers were able to flee but she was unable to escape because of her disabilities.

I think this is unjust. A "Holocaust Day"? As if the slaughter of Jews deserves special recognition that the slaughter of American Indians does not? How about Armenians, Bosnian Muslims, or Tutsis in Rwanda? Why does this one incident in human history always get special recognition? Wouldn't have a "Anti-Genocide Day" have been a better idea?

I know, some people out there might call me an anti-Semite for voicing such ideas and thoughts, but so be it. To many out there ANY words, written or spoken that are critical of Israel or Jews are anti-Semitic. But this isn't the case and I reject this idea.

The Holocaust has become and industry for certain groups and people. They use it to make money, they use to silence people, they use it to bully people, political parties, and in certain cases entire nations. To this day the German people are stilling paying reparations and providing military and political support to Jews and the people of Israel. Why? How many Germans alive today had anything to do with the Nazi death machine and why should people not involved be required to give into what is nothing more than collective punishment?

I am COMPLETELY against a "Holocaust" day and would only support a day that does not single out the trials of a single group over another.

1. Education: Make sure that the 5-10 most relevant books are read by generals, other officers, and men -- beginning with those at the War College. And make sure that those in the Department of Justice, civilian employees in the Department of Defense, upper-level employees in the Department of Health and Human Services, and members of Congress and state and local government are properly educated on the subject of Islam. Stop misrepresenting Islam as a doctrine that encourages "peace" and "tolerance." Stop continuing to insist that those who conduct Jihad are doing so despite Islam, and not quite properly prompted by, and in the name of, and in the spirit of, Islam.

Attempt on every occasion to raise the matter of what Islam teaches and how Muslims intend to deal with these teachings, or not to, at every meeting with Muslim ambassadors and leaders. Never leave it out of any speech -- and make sure that from the top down, everyone is echoing the same sentiments, asking the same questions, wondering the same things aloud.

2. Establish a War Board which, once it has been clearly understood that the menace threatening all Infidels everywhere is properly called a "Jihad," then that War Board will seek to identify and bring to the attention of Infidels everywhere the various instruments of that Jihad. While military means are part of Jihad, whether acts of terrorism or battlefield combat (qital), they are not the most effective or most threatening instruments of Jihad. These others include "wealth" (i.e. oil revenues), "pen, speech" (propaganda), and the latest weapon, the demographic weapon. It is important to produce evidence from Muslim press, radio, television, and websites, that there is a clear understanding among Muslims of how, for example, "demographic conquest" can -- and has in the past in various parts of the world -- succeed in islamizing a place.

3. Establish a Propaganda Unit whose aim will be to make clear to non-Arab Muslims that within Islam there is an Arab supremacist ideology that is not only political (so that non-Arab Muslims are always enrolled in whatever political demands the Arabs make, but not vice-versa), but cultural and linguistic: the taking of Arab names, the turning five times a day in the direction of Arabia, the insistence that the model for all mankind, for all time, is Mohammad, a seventh-century Arab, and in addition, his Companions whose mores and manners were those of 7th-century Arabs, so that Kurds, Berbers, Persians, Malays and others are made to forget, or despise, as much as possible, their own history, language, and culture. There should be no let-up in attempts to bring the real nature of Islam home to these Muslims.
Another part of this propaganda unit would emphasize the way in which Islam stunts civilizational development and individual mental growth. The habit of mental submission, the system of Total Regulation (of what you eat, of what you wear, of how your hair is done, of how you wash yourself, of absolutely everything under the sun) and, in addition, the setting up of the Qur'an as containing all of Science, so that in the end human curiosity is stifled, and one is discouraged -- forbidden, in fact -- from exercising free and skeptical inquiry needs to be noted. Mothers need to realize that Islam will hold their children back. Some will ignore this, but many will not.

The many prohibitions in Islam, on music, on painting of living creatures, on sculpture, on much else, also needs to be given attention, and emphasis.

If Islam can be seen as an enemy of human freedom and thought -- which it is -- it will be easier to cause those who might otherwise be inclined to be tolerant, those for whom that art and that science and that mental freedom are supposed to be important, to enroll in the anti-Jihad. That anti-Jihad, of course, needs every conceivable recruit, however those recruits may find one another to leave something to be desired.

4. Identify places where natural fissues within Islam can be exploited at little cost and with great benefit. Obvious example: Iraq. Other examples: black Africa, where the treatment of black Africans by Arabs should evoke, and can be made to evoke, the centuries of the Arab slave trade. That trade began earlier than the European slave trade, and ended, most unwillingly, later under European pressure. It has more or less been re-begun wherever Arab Muslims have been free from such pressure or prying, in the Sudan, in Mali, in Mauritania, and even, one has reason to believe, in Saudi Arabia. It needs to be constantly emphasized that slavery cannot be outlawed in Islam, that it is part of Islam, that its victims have been black Africans and Slavs in south and eastern Europe, and people catpured on raids in Western Europe. This is not a case of blackening an image, but merely of presenting the true face of what has been so carefully hidden from view.

5. Do everything possible to unite Infidels everywhere -- all non-Muslims, some of whom have had more immediate or recent experience of Muslim rule, as Hindus in India, and whose historical experience (60-70 million killed by Muslims) could help in changing the natural tendency toward appeasement of so many Western Europeans.

6. Keep all major weapons systems out of the hands of Muslim governments -- no matter how seemingly friendly or "moderate" that government may, at the moment, profess to be. No exceptions, for "moderates" can always become "immoderate."

7. Keep Turkey out of the E.U., for its presence would guarantee the future islamization of Europe -- which must be stopped.

8. Seek ways to militarily reverse Muslim encroachments, wherever results can be surely achieved at little cost, and where the benefits would be great -- as would happen if the Americans were to seize the southern Sudan and Darfur, only in order to hold a referendum on indpendence from the northern Arab Muslims, and not to bring "democracy."

9. Work to reverse the Russian suspicion and resentment of the United States, and continually point out to the Russians that it is they who have the most to fear from Iranian or other Muslim possession of nuclear weapons, unless Russia is prepared not only to surrender the entire Caucasus, but to throw both Georgia and Armenia to the Muslim wolves. In the end, Russia itself, given its own birth-rate, and that of the Muslims within it, has to begin to grasp that this is not a mere matter of swarthy southerners -- the "chornyie" who arouse Russian suspicions -- not a matter of skin color but of ideology: a matter of Muslims, whether swarthy or white as the snow in the lands of the Evenks.

10. Understand how very useless is the concept of the "moderate" Muslim -- because it is impossible to know when someone's "moderation" is real or feigned. Experience shows that Muslim dissimulation -- whether called taqiyya, kitman, or simply dissimulation -- comes naturally. Also, by his mere presence a "moderate" Muslim can swell the ranks, and hence the perceived power, of Muslims and thereby help even the "immoderates" obtain their demands on craven Infidel politicians. And also because even the "moderate" can be transformed, sometimes very quickly, into the "immoderate" Muslim, or can have children who themselves will turn out, in a seeking-your-roots or disaffected-from-the-West attitude, to become "immoderate."

11. Work to stop further penetration and settlement behind what Muslims themselves regard as enemy lines. This requires not a general attack on immigration, but specific moves to limit Muslim immigration. This can only take place if the Idols of the Age, about Diversity and Everyone Wants the Same Thing and Tolerance is Always the Only Conceivable Policy, are undermined, mocked, and shown up as the dangers they are.

"Moderate" muslims support murder

A survey by a university in Turkey has shown almost 40% support for the practice of "honour killing".

The results come days after a court in Istanbul gave a life sentence for the murder of a girl by her brothers for giving birth to a child out of wedlock.

Turkish law, which used to be lenient on "honour crimes", was heavily revised as part of the country's preparation for EU accession proceedings.

Turkey has started talks with the EU but is not expected to join for years.

The survey was conducted in the conservative south-eastern city of Diyarbakir.

Disfigured

It questioned 430 people, most of them men. When asked the appropriate punishment for a woman who has committed adultery, 37% replied she should be killed.

Twenty-five percent said that she deserved divorce, and 21% that her nose or ears should be cut off.

The survey group was small but the results are a reminder that "honour killing" - a practice where women are murdered for allegedly bringing shame on their family - still has significant support in parts of Turkey.

There are no reliable statistics on how many women die this way, but Turkey has made major strides fighting such violence.

Since the penal code was reformed last summer a man can no longer claim he was provoked as his defence. That used to lead to light sentences.

But last Friday a court in Istanbul sent a man to prison for life for murdering his sister in her hospital bed.

He shot her for giving birth to a child outside marriage.

And there is evidence the authorities here are committed to taking the reforms further.

A commission has just been established in parliament to research the whole issue for the first time. Its 12 members are expected to report back in December.

THE Netherlands is likely to become the first country in Europe to ban the burka, under government proposals that would bring in some of the toughest curbs on Muslim clothing in the world.

The country’s hardline Integration Minister, Rita Verdonk, known as the Iron Lady for her series of tough anti-immigration measures, told Parliament that she was going to investigate where and when the burka should be banned. The burka, traditional clothing in some Islamic societies, covers a woman’s face and body, leaving only a strip of gauze for the eyes.

Mrs Verdonk gave warning that the “time of cosy tea-drinking” with Muslim groups had passed and that natives and immigrants should have the courage to be critical of each other. She recently cancelled a meeting with Muslim leaders who refused to shake her hand because she was a woman.

The proposals are likely to win the support of Parliament because of the expected backing by right-wing parties. But they have caused outrage among Muslim and human rights groups, who say that the Government is pandering to the far Right.

Mrs Verdonk admitted that a complete ban on the garment would be legally tricky because of freedom of religion legislation. However, she said that she would prohibit the garments “in specific situations” on grounds of public safety. The ban is likely to be enforced in shops, public buildings, cinemas, train and bus stations and airports, as well as on trains and buses.

The Netherlands has become preoccupied by Islamic terrorism after the investigation into the murder of the film-maker Theo van Gogh uncovered a network of Muslim extremists dedicated to destroying the country. Attention has turned to the burka because police authorities have become concerned that a terrorist could use one for concealment.

A government spokesman said: “We want to investigate when, how, in which places the burka should be banned. It is a safety measure — you don’t see who is in it.” The Government cites as a precedent existing football legislation, which bans people from entering football grounds covering their faces in scarves.

Yassim Hertog, a vice-president of the Muslim School Boards Union, said: “Can you prohibit someone from wearing a certain type of dress? They are trying to test what a government can forbid, and how far you can go trampling on people’s rights. They want to show all these Dutch citizens who are sick and tired of all these ‘mutant’ citizens, this is where we draw the line — get normal.”

Muslim groups insist that only a few dozen women in the Netherlands wear the burka, and that the ban is a distraction. The Muslims and Government Contact Body said: “Only a handful of Muslims actually wear burkas. Let us focus our energy on what we have in common. This is not a big problem.”

Last year two Muslim women lost a court case against their college that had banned them from wearing burkas during their social work and childcare course. The judge backed the college in its claim that children had to be able to see who was caring for them, prompting the women to drop the course.

Famile Arslan, the women’s lawyer, told The Times:

“Women have a very strong opinion about the burka. If you ban it they won’t leave the house. It is not a good way to integrate and emancipate Muslim women. Everything Muslims do is criticised by Verdonk. She is doing it to get votes. She doesn’t care about Muslims and their problems.”

Mrs Verdonk made the proposals after Geert Wilders, the right-wing MP, requested the ban. Mr Wilders claimed that the garment was unfriendly towards women and a threat to security.

Baroness Sarah Ludford MEP, on the European Parliament’s Civil Liberties Committee, who has been active in opposing bans on the hijab, or scarf, said that there were no arguments for banning the burka. “If there is a genuine belief that someone under a burka is a terrorist, then you invoke stop-and-search laws on the grounds of reasonable suspicion.”

The Netherlands would become the first European country to ban the wearing of the burka in public situations, although there are already some local bans. Last year several Belgian towns, including Antwerp and Ghent, banned the wearing of the burka in public, and recently started issuing £100 spot fines for breaking the municipal ordinance. Several towns in Italy, including Como, have invoked legislation introduced by Mussolini that bans hiding one’s face in public to impose fines on burka-wearers. France and several regions of Germany have followed Turkey and Tunisia in banning the wearing of the hijab, which leaves the face visible, in public buildings, most controversially in schools.

An unwillingness to discuss how the tenets of Islam, the attitudes within Islam that demand loyalty to the ruler as long as he is a Muslim, and that dismiss the worth of any sysem that would set up the consent of the governed -- i.e. mere mortals -- above the Holy Law of Islam, as derived from the holy books of Islam (Qur'an and Hadith, and the Example of Muhammad, uswa hasana, as set down in the Sira), which for a Believer is unacceptable.

16. An unwillingness to discuss how the attitudes toward women, attitudes that result in what most of us recognize as instititutionalized mistreatment, might be one of the reasons for the political, econonomic, and social backwardness that is to be found all over the Muslim lands, and precisely to the extent that they adhere more closely to Islam in their legal and social systems. Saudi Arabia, Iran, the Sudan, and Pakistan are among the worst offenders; Tunisia and Turkey, and the quite considerably de-islamized stans of Central Asia, among the best.

17. An unwillngness to discuss how it is that "moderate" Muslims at times, and for reasons completely beneath any Infidel's radar, into quite "immoderate" Muslims. The man who seems completely integrated, earning a small fortune as an Intel engineer, with three chidlren and an American wife, and who nonethelss after 9/11 gives it all up to travel to western China in the hopes of getting into Afghanistan to fight, against his fellow Americans, on behalf of the Taliban and its ally Al Qaeda (the example of "Mike" Hawash) is hardly the only one.

18. An unwillingness to study, to analyze, to admit to, and to figure out what can be done about, the Muslim doctrine as enshrined in the Qur'an, and elaborated up[on in the Hadith, and demonstrated in the life of Muhammad, the Muslim attitude toward non-Muslims. What can be done, within Islam itself, to change the basic manichean division of the world between Believer and Infidel? If a Muslim denies such a division, then he is not a "moderate" but someone who is intent on keeping Infidels in the dark about the that aspect of Islam which, for those Infidels, is the most important. Any Muslim who pretends that the institution of the dhimmi did not exist, or as Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, the Turkish historian who is currently the Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Countries, would have us believe, was not bad but in fact almost a privilege kindly offered to a select group of non-Muslims -- the Ahl al-kitab -- as "protected peoples" (a highly misleading phrase, as if Al Capone were to refer to the owners of restaurants and liquor stores his men shook down as "protected people"), is not a true "moderate" but one more so-called "moderate" engaged in continued deceptioni.

19. An unwillingness to discuss the full extent of the disabilities imposed on non-Muslims who, as dhimmis, were allowed to live and even to practice their religion, but under circumstances so painful, so financiallly burdensome, and so socially and politicallly limiting, and at times so physically insecure, that over time a great many of those dhimmis, even aside from the intermittent spasms of forced conversion that would be ordered by a ruler (e.g. Shah Abbas in Persia), would in order to avoid continuing to endure that status of dhimmi would convert to Islam.

20. An unwillingness to discuss the role of Arab supremacist ideology within Islam, a presumably universalist belief system. The requirement that the Qur'an ideally be read in Arabic, that non-Arab speakers (such as those poor boys in Pakistan) devote much of their young lives in madrasas to memorizing a text they cannot possibly grasp in a language they do not know, the desirability of taking Arab names as part of islamization, the necessity of bowing five times a day in the direction of Arabia, the setting up as a Model for Mankind of a seventh-century denizen of Arabia and, secondarily as models, his companions, the often-comical false Arab lines of descent that non-Arabs assume, the cultural and linguistic and political imperialism that is part of what Muslim Arabs have inflicted on others, from the Kurds and the Berbers, to the black Muslims in Darfur, to the Afghans treated with such contempt by the local Al-Qaeda Arabs, to the non-Arabs of Pakistan and Indonesia who are encouraged to forget, or to regard with hostility, thepre-Islamic or non-Islamic parts of their own countries and civilizations, for nothing must exist but Islam, and islamization necessarily has carried with it the seeds, and more, of arabization.

TORONTO -- A national Islamic group is asking Muslims who have been stopped at Canadian airports to come forward in hopes of launching a legal challenge against no-fly lists.

The Canadian Islamic Congress has issued the call because many Muslims are making travel preparations for the hajj, a major religious ritual, early next year. About 5,000 Muslims in Canada are expected to make the annual pilgrimage to Mecca, Saudi Arabia, in January.

Ottawa has said it wants to set up a no-fly list to take effect next year, though airlines already exercise their own security measures.

Congress president Mohamed Elmasry says he wants to know how people on the list would be notified, how long they would stay on it and how names could be removed.

In August, Elmasry sent a letter to federal Transport Minister Jean Lapierre opposing the planned list, expected to contain about 1,000 names.

Lapierre has said the list, to be developed with the help of the RCMP and the Canadian Security Intelligence Service, would only name those who pose "an immediate threat to aviation security."

Elmasry cited one incident a few weeks ago in which he said a Muslim family from Ontario was not allowed to bring their baby on board.

Elmasry, who could not provide further details of the incident, said that case triggered the call to solicit other similar stories.

"It is funny and at the same time it's sad," Elmasry said. "This is really devastating to our community."
